wearing crocs at work

Published

hi

i have been wearing crocs on my feet at work for about 18 months, they are the best shoe i have ever worn, they are comfy, hard wearing, hygenic (as i put them in the washing machine) and in my opinion have cured alot of the foot/back problems i used to have... most of which have been caused by being a blooming nurse anyway.

As you may have heard the hospitals are trying to ban them, mine is trying as they say they are not uniform policy, even though they are worn in ITU/HDU/theatres, infact i saw a woman wearing a bright orange pair in theatre the other day.

My manager is on holiday, so we havent been told either way on my ward yet but shes back next week and i know whats going to happen, a man who works on the ward next door has been threatened with disciplinary action if he wears his again.

just to verify, mine are the type without extra holes in, so there is no risk of needlestick/body fluid exposure, and mine are always worn with the strap down at the back so they dont slip off, infact ive had to run down the ward a few times in them with no problems. i did see the static thing in the news papers, but as far as i can see this link is unproven.

any advice on how to handle this? i know im breaking the rules, but what about not being able to wear them affecting my ability to work? do you think i have a chance??? i really feel it will affect how i feel at work alot

cheers

hi ann as far as i know the static isnt the issue as its an unproven link, its the type of shoe they are. Ive just looked on the crosc website and they have one with a full back which ive just ordered for work, if the static becomes an issue with my trust then i will have to wear something different i suppose....

I think it may be places like OR or Cath Lab not a ward where it would be a problem.

Best of luck

update

my boss returned from holiday and said that there is no official statement to say yes or no to them being worn in our hospital yet so she hadnt noticed mine on my feet :)

Hi there,

I am originally from England and have lived in the USA for over 25 years......sold real estate for years now an RN.

I used to wear crocs and loved them.....found an alternative that is even more comfortable, makes everyone happy especially me:monkeydance:....Dansko clogs. They are expensive, but worth every penny. go to http://www.zappos.com/n/es/d/722013479/page/1.html to find good prices. I got the cabrios.

ps: I actually lost 20 pounds on atkins......I guess you use kilos

But remember altering the way one eats for life is the key

all the best!!!

hi thanks for that

i found a croc that i can wear at work, its called troika and has a heel cup, so therefore not really a clog!! hurrah!!

as for Atkins..

well that ones gone by the wayside, have been quite ill in hospital having exploded appendix out so it went by the wayside about two weeks ago, however it will return when i feel better.

its worked for me this year, i lost 26lb in total, without much fuss, at the moment i dont feel like eating much at all but im sure that will change in the next few days :uhoh3:

being a patient is horrible, never want that experiance again....

Sorry to hear this Claire. Hope you're feeling better now.

Hey Letina - nice to hear from you!

I was going to ask EN the same question but as I think most nurses are just as bad I didn't!! We don't think of ourselves nearly enough!!

Glad you did find Crocs to suit though EN!

basically, i dont think you imagine that it is something that serious when its you

i thought it was a bit of a pulled muscle when it started to ache, and when i started vomiting, i just thought my cooking was to blame!!!!!!!!

hubby stayed off work on the monday, at the time i was annoyed because i felt ill and i just wanted him to leave me in peace- good job he doesnt always listen to me as i collapsed on the living room floor later that day and he had to call an ambulance!

feeling better now thankfully, hes been a good nurse, i begged them to let me home from hospital early as the noise from the pumps bleeping and patients etc was driving me nuts, it was like being trapped at work and not getting paid!!!! :lol2:

OMG- Poor EN hopeyou are feeling better - I know hat you mean about the patient bit last time I was in hospital I begged to let me home I could not stand the noise - those bloody pumps and ill patients screaming out all night I felt like i was in a war zone!

typical nurse, I had one of the nurses I work with trying to convince me to discharge her with appendicities because she felt guilty at taking up a hospital bed.

Hope you are feeling better take care of yourself and don't rush back to work

We do make the worse nurses. Guess I was lucky on the couple of times I was admitted I was given a cubicle of my own and able to stay there until discharge although would have moved it needed but staff insisted they would manage as we don't get any perks in the job and if they couldn't help a fellow nurse then they was in the wrong job
