Hey everyone!! I just found out last week that I got accepted into Waubonsee Community College's nursing program!! I will be starting in October. Has anyone gone there? Any advice? What did your schedule look like? I am making myself crazy thinking about it. I have 3 kids that I will have to have in daycare. I wish I could know what my schedule will be now, but I won't know about the clinicals until after class starts. Any input is welcome!!!

I don't know if you aware but they seem to say that there this a semester hold or more for everyone. I applied and didn't get in last spring. I have friends that applied again that got rejected like me and they got in for this oct. But I have also had people apply three times. She said there was already a waitlist of more than a 100 people. But there is no set way of doing things at wcc from my experience. So good luck and don't give up if you don't get in. I applied else where so that I don't have all my eggs 1 basket.
That's true. Guess I'll have to wait and find out what happens. I wish there wasn't such a long wait to find out lol. Would just like to know one way or another. I have all my pre reqs completed and did well on the PAX-RN so guess its just a matter of how many other people that applied have everything complete already. If I don't get in for the spring I'll probably apply for the fall but also might transfer to a university in spring to get a bachelors in science. If I do nursing I'll probably stick with Waubonsee and wait to get in as it would be the cheapest way to go and I wouldn't have student loans or debt that way and then can always finish up with a 1 yr RN to BSN after getting an ASN. Is the wait list only for each term since you have to apply to spring and fall separately or do those people who didn't get in this fall on the wait list carry over and get in for spring? Where else did you apply to, COD?
Yes, COD. I liked wcc for my pre reqs but I don't like the decision making they do. Cod has it clear where you stand and by when youll start etc. At least you know which direction you wanna go. The waitlist accumulates according to the girl I spoke to. Because they actually told her a number of where she placed. So we have a long long way to go.
I'm applying but am out of district. Im hoping I may still have a chance as it is near impossible to get into COD with only being able to apply once a year and their high standards regarding total GPA. Does anyone know if they have a qouta of a certain number of out of district students they accept or if they just randomly accept if in district doesnt fill their seats?
I think you have way way way more higher chance of getting into COD then WCC. Plus GPA isnt really what they are looking for. Trust me I have spent the last year researching and talking to an actual committee person as well as other students that got in. They are primarly using the PAX score. It sounds like I am a big advocate for COD but the reality is I feel like I have a bigger chance of getting in then anywhere else. I know its only once a year but at least you have to waitlists and criteria to weed out weaker candidates. Last year they admitted people from the waitlist to full the prospect list. Plus, the number of candidates are decreasing because of the economy.
Have you applied to COD? I have I am all done with everything except the CNA and I am retaking the PAX to score higher.
I'd check out the Review Guide for RN Pre-Entrance Exam by NLN(national league for nursing). The PAX-RN test for verbal(vocabulary and reading comprehension), math, and science. Math is basic stuff with no calculators and has a lot of fractions, multiplication, and division. You must do everything by hand though, I found it easy but others may not. Science has general biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science. I don't think it had very much A & P at all which I found odd. Its mostly basic concepts. Get the review guide and look at it. Do the practice tests and then see what you got right and wrong. It also gives an explanation of the proper answer. Verbal was my worst section. Get the review guide, do the practice exams and study what you get wrong or don't know and you will do fine.
Hi rdy2strt,
Welcome to our WCC discussion about admission! Just to give you a little additional perspective from my experience, once you are completely done your prereqs and then apply, you will most likely wait a full semester before being accepted. I finished mine in Dec 2009, so I did not get in for fall 2010, but do expect to get in for a Jan or Mar 2011 start. Some that I know in a similar position to mine did get in for Oct 2010, but none for Aug 2010. I did speak to the nursing department secretary in June, and she did tell me that the current waitlist at that time was around 120. Hope that helps!

For anyone who has applied to the Waubonsee nursing program how long did it take after the application deadline(was sept 15th for spring) for you to find out if you got in or got put on a wait list? I applied for spring 2011 but all I have gotten was a letter asking me to provide 3 forms verifying my proof of residency by Oct 22nd. I'm curious because class registration starts Nov 1st.
