First off to the nurses who tell you nursing sucks and it doesn't get better and there is no reward in the career: these are the nurses who went into the field because they wanted a secure job and the "high demand" of nursing sounded appealing. These are the nurses who aren't truly passionate for nursing or what is stands for. Yes, it is a hard career but also one of the most rewarding. It will be draining and some days you might go home crying but honestly even the worst days are outweighed by the good ones.You should stick it out through the end of the semester and really evaulate your thoughts then. If you still aren't sure I would change your major. It takes real determination and commitment to be a nurse. You have to know in your heart that its right for you. No one else can make that decision for you. This is why I also believe the best advice for anyone thinking about choosing nursing as a career is to get a job as a PCT in a hospital. It gives you a great look at what the field is all about and actually helps many students make the decision of whether or not to pursue nursing degrees.

Got my acceptance letter today! Anyone coming to Danville??

I called today and they told me they are still sending out letters! Guess I will continues to stalk my mailman!

I wonder if Charleston campus gets more applicants because of EIU. Is it right on campus?

I applied for the danville campus! I live in Naperville, about 30 minutes away from Chicago!! I've been stressing so much because my friend was already accepted last month and we plan on living together so I really need to get in!

Hi Everyone! Starting a thread to hopefully meet and discuss with some applicants for the Spring 2013 semester. My friend and I have both applied and are waiting on a decision! If we both get in we will be moving from the West Suburbs of Chicago down to Danville to start in January! It would be great to hear from anyone and good luck to all applying! -Rocky

I have a quick question. Do any of you know if the GPA used is your total cumulative for all classes taken or just the GPA for the classes required for the program? I am a little confused on this. Thanks

Erincodadn: My GPA is the same as yours. I am going to start studying for my PAX RN which I will probably take this fall. I will also have all my classes completed. Did you have a previous degree that gave you extra points?

Napermom:Thanks for replying, I didn't mean to say that you got in easily as if you didn't work hard. It just seemed like you all got in right away. I know everyone must work hard to get in, nursing is one of the most challenging yet rewarding careers. Even working as a tech in a hospital, it is fast paced, non stop action for 12 hours straight, but I love it :) Erinkcodadn: that really gives me some hope. everyone who has made mistakes in the past should not be penalized, its good that you were able to raise your GPA and congrats on getting in! I know PAX is huge now in placement... I'm studying for it I bought the NLN PAX study guide. What did you think helped most? I am most nervous for the physics and math portions.

Guess I am just wondering if I missed out when not applying this year. My GPA was lowered due to illness a year and a half ago and some bad decision making for not dropping a couple classes which resulted in F's. Since then I have raised my GPA and retaken those courses. To be honest though, I really kind of gave up on COD because of the impossible admissions process and what I have heard from others about it being crazy competive and only accepting people with straight A's. I suppose I will try for next year but really have my eye on going to Waubonsee because they are less expensive and have an easier admissions process from what I hear from my friends who attend there. What is your take on COD admissions this year? It seems like all of you were so easily accepted! Congrats as well.

They use a points system based on GPA, Pre-Reqs taken, Previous degrees, and PAX-RN exam. You can score out of a total possible 27.5 points. That is how you are chosen.Did all of you have very high GPAs? I work as a PCT @ Edward and know several nursing students from COD all of which said they had 3.9/4.0 GPAs. I know they are usually very picky when choosing. Just wondering if thats still the case.

Do any of you accepted mind sharing what your points were in the cod system? I'm just curious to see where I stand.

RSCOD, Are you not in district for Waubonsee? Do you think that made a difference when applying? I plan on moving to Aurora early next year and applying to Waubonsee's nursing program. CDNtobe, How many times did you apply before being accepted to the program? And do you mind me asking what your GPA and PAX scores were? You can PM me if you'd like. I am just curious because my grades are definitely not perfect and I want to know what kind of chance I have of getting in. Thank you in advance.

2ndshot, Do you mind me asking what your grades were for the pre-reqs A&P and Chemistry? And your PAX score? I am interested in applying to the LPN program but want an idea of what they are looking for grade and score wise. -Raquel
