Hey everyone!! I just found out last week that I got accepted into Waubonsee Community College's nursing program!! I will be starting in October. Has anyone gone there? Any advice? What did your schedule look like? I am making myself crazy thinking about it. I have 3 kids that I will have to have in daycare. I wish I could know what my schedule will be now, but I won't know about the clinicals until after class starts. Any input is welcome!!!

I have a bachelors in Operations Management and a masters degree in business with a concentration in Health services management. Yes, for the Dunham fund I was turned down. They didnt specify why.. just that i didnt meet the requirements. I was saying for the other scholarships.. they prob turn me down because im not poor enough!!
I'm also going to WCC...starting my prereqs this semester with A&P I. I am taking it on Saturday as I work full time. I noticed the summer schedule is out and they are not offering A&P II on Saturday, and I'm not sure I can make the evening class. Having been through these classes, do you think I would have any issues with waiting and taking A&P II in the fall?
Any advice you have is appreciated...it's nice to know there are people to talk with! :)
Hi - my advice would be to take it if at all possible during the summer. Do you have other prerequisites to complete as well to be ready for the Nursing program? Keep in mind that they will not even consider your application until you have all prerequisites completed, or are in your last semester of prerequisites when you submit your application.
The prereqs I need to complete are A&P I&II, Microbiology, and Life Span Psych. I am not finacially in a position yet to start the nursing program, so I am taking my prereqs one class at a time. It will probably be about 2 years before I can apply.
I could take Life Span Psych this summer as it is offered online, and then continue with A&P II in the fall. That way I am still taking a required class but have more flexibility. However I wasn't sure if having a space of 3 months in between the two A&P courses would be an issue in terms of retaining the material. But I think I could keep up on the material in the summer. The other concern was the possibility of the school changing editions of textbooks for the fall...it would be nice not to have to pay $400 again!
Do you think this would work?
I think that would work out just fine, and I wouldn't worry about them changing the textbook edition, as several people in my A&P II fall class had an older edition and it worked out just fine for them. You could also try taking the CLEP exam for Lifespan, therefore only having to buy and read the textbook on your own, rather than paying tuition for the course. Testing is less than $100.00 and you can also then resell your book when you are done. Do a search on CLEP on the WCC site, and you will see all the courses that are accepted for CLEP testing. It does not affect your GPA one way or another, as it will just say that you have earned credit for the course.
Hi everyone!
I am enrolled at Waubonsee right now taking gen ed classes and doing research on different directions I would like to go. I love helping people and currently work PT as a therapeutic riding instructor teaching children and adults with disabilities how to ride horses.
I want to finish my formal education and nursing is luring me in for some reason. Is it hard to get into the nursing program at Waubonsee? Is the waiting list pretty long? Do any of you know what the job outlook is like for Associates Degree grads that get their RN. I'm also trying to research what kind of hours I would be putting in to start my career.
Any help and guidance is appreciated!

What degrees do you have already? I presume you are referring to the Dunham scholarship when you said you have been turned down? Did they specifically state that it was due to financials?
