VA New Grad Residency 2015

U.S.A. Washington DC

Published

Hi there! I was accepted into the new grad RN residency at the VA Washington DC, set to start late August/early September. I am interested in connecting with those that have also been accepted or are currently in their 1 year program. Please say hello! Would love to hear about your experiences and backgrounds! :):):)

I've gotten a tentative offer and am waiting for the process to finally be done. I'm hoping it all works out. How long did the process take you?

Hi! So glad you responded! I had my initial interviews in late June. Early July had my main interview, and go a tentative offer the following week. I have done my fingerprinting, and vet pro and sent some forms.. Still need to set up my physical and badge, but its been difficult because I constantly need a sponsor from the closest VA to me to be in contact with the DC VA to get everything in order, as I am from out of state. How far in are you in getting everything done? I am very anxious to get a start date.. And haven't heard anything in regards to that yet. Also do you know if we will be caring for our own pts, even though it is a new grad program. Would love to know your thoughts! 😄😄

I've done three interviews and filled out the paperwork. I got a tentative offer but the recruiter lost my application and had to send it to her again. I'm just waiting to set up my physical and drug test. This is nail biting. The description I was given about the job makes me excited about it.

Eventually, we will be caring for our own patients, I believe.

Violetdiscovery, were you given a final offer once you completed your physical?

Hey biopsychmajor! Sorry just saw your response. No official acceptance yet. I still need to do my physical, and badge. There was a huge delay in them receiving some of my forms, so they just got them yesterday. And my references from vetpro have not been cleared yet (we need 3 references to go through!).

I just completed my e-quip yesterday. Not sure if that's the same as the vetpro. I go for my physical and fingerprinting next week. Hope my references don't take too long to respond.

Hey guys! I'm also going to be working in the nurse residency program at the VA. I actually start orientation on Monday (august 10). I'M SO NERVOUS! :(

We started the hiring process earlier it seems. I interviewed back in April, and I got a job offer in May. Finished all the paperwork in June - finger prints, physical, equip.

I've talked to previous residents, and they said that they gradually take care of patients. Like for the first couple of months, they double teamed with a preceptor. Then their preceptor gave them one patient, two patients, and so on. But it does vary... depending on your preceptor (some might think you're ready for all of the patients sooner). Hope this helps!

How long after you did your fingerprints and physical did you get a final offer?

I finished everything and got a completion email on July 9th. I got my firm job offer email on July 28th. :)

I'm going on Tuesday and I hope it doesn't take much longer after that. Once I get the offer, I have to go see about an apartment.
