VA New Grad Residency 2015

Published

Hi there! I was accepted into the new grad RN residency at the VA Washington DC, set to start late August/early September. I am interested in connecting with those that have also been accepted or are currently in their 1 year program. Please say hello! Would love to hear about your experiences and backgrounds! :):):)

Me too! Im looking to live somewhere in Virginia. They said the start date would be latest in early September.. but it seems like it will hit either mid-late Sept :(

Thanks for the insight!! Please update us about how your first day went. Also what city do you live in? I will be moving :yuck:

I don't know too much about the area. I don't want to be directly in DC but not too far either. As long as I can get there on the subway (I hear the traffic is horrible), I'll be fine.

Hey guys! I'm at a VA in South Carolina. Just finished my second day of orientation. So many presentations... I'm brain dead and pretty sure I might get a DVT from sitting in a chair for 8 hours. LOL. We have about 2 weeks total of orientation... 3 days of general orientation and the rest is specifically nursing orientation. Needless to say, I might go crazy. I just can't wait to be out on the floor and doing things!!!

Are you getting your physical done at the DC location?

No, I had it done here in PA.

I ask because the VA in my city won't give me a physical unless the VA in DC sponsors me. I keep getting the run-around from Mr. Service in HR. Who did you talk to at the DC VA to give you a courtesy occupational health physical?

(MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) is the nurse recruiter at the DC VA I've been in contact with. I'm not sure who set up the physical and fingerprinting though. You could try calling her to see what to do next. I do know they sent a letter to the Philadelphia VA center for me to have it done. I'll look for it and see who sent it. Since I haven't received a formal offer yet, I just hope they aren't making me do all this for nothing.

Thanks so much! Yes, I was thinking I should contact her again. Will give her a call tomorrow; I hope she doesn't tell me to contact HR.. LOL. I think we should get our official offers by the end of the month. Hopefully we start mid-September latest :yuck:

I certainly hope so. I hope things get worked out for you real soon.

She was not happy that I hadn't gotten my physical yet. Had to explain that HR was giving me the run-around. She set everything up in 30 minutes, and said if I had anymore trouble to not hesitate to contact her. *pheww* Things are finally moving!
