Warning do not go to Carrington College....

Published

Ok so this actually happened today. I went up to Carrington College b.c a night to 2 nights ago I saw on the NV BON that Carrington College (aka Apollo College)'s NCLEX scores from july 2008 to june 2009 were in the 50-55 percentile. When I asked an admissions rep about this she became very defensive said that wasn't the case for this yr's quarter they've been in the 80-90 % range. I asked where to find said info she said that it was on the website for the NV BON i told her that the only NCLEX reports on there were from 08-09. she said that if i look under education it should be there (guess what folks it wasn't-in fact nothing concerning quarterly reports is located on that site other than the boards meetings where they recently granted said college another provisional extension). when i asked as to when would they have NLN accreditation she attempted to down talk me by asking if i knew what it was. told her that CSN has it she refuted this. my journey then lead me to CSN where i spoke to the allied health admissions rep at CSN she was very forthcoming & when i asked her where i could find some of the info that i had asked an apollo rep for she looked bewildered and said that she had no clue, suggested that i stop by the BON & inquire. when i got to the BON the one in charge of education was not there but the receptionist said quite frankly that the schools NCLEX scores have never made it out of the high 50's she even was nice enough to pull out the accompanying paperwork to back this up . she gave me a card & i thanked her for her time.

CONCLUSION? i'm telling this school where they can stick it; they can keep the 48000+ tuition. i'm going to CSN instead, sure it'll take me longer (with icky icky pre-reqs) but whatevs at least i know that i can transfer to any school in this country as well as save myself the whopper of a repayment plan.

I'm sorry, but I am having difficulty understanding your post. Did you just have an unpleasant personal experience with certain persons at this college?

I think it sounds like that admission's rep was really NOT representing the school for exactly what it is. I really think you should try to talk to someone else there and let them know what happened...it just doesn't seem right to be outright lying to prospective students!

The school has less than a 60% pass rate and the admissions councilor lied about it and basically gave her none of the information she was asking for.

Without knowing anything about this school, just from the information provided here, I'd bet that they are a for-profit educational facility with unethical recruiting practices to get unsuspecting people to sign up to their so-called education programs, pay an outlandish amount of money, and come out of it with a worthless degree.

Good thing you did your research before you paid all that money.

i don't know it could be that it's just me but any educational establishment that would have an admissions rep that could do that with out blinking an eye says a lot about the type educational experience that one could have there.

This. I'm learning things to watch for every time I come to this site :)

Yes I definitly see where you are coming from. Unfortunatly I got into the mess of going to school here. I had a friend that had a good experience and found a job right away from graduating from this school when it was named APOLLO College. So I decided to go there myself. This is not the 1st time this school has had problems with the RN program. I was in my 3rd semester and with the name change of the school 7-8 nursing insructors quit to teach elsewhere. This grabbed my attention as I was very shocked and sad that these great nurses-nursing teachers were leaving. This was a sign that this nursing school isn't going to hold up. Upon this change Carrington opened up a PTA program, seems as if they did this to cover the expenses that they are loosing by not carrying on with the RN program. The school also did not enroll another batch of nursing students in between semesters. Which is not normal for a RN program...Very unorganized...I eventually decided not to further on my education there and have applied to other programs that are well worth the wait. Advice to pre nursing students save your money and go to CSN or UNLV Goodluck!:yeah:

This is what lots of the proprietary (private-for-profit) schools, inc. those offering nursing programs, do.

I actually almost made the same mistake. I tried for the respiratory therapist position, which I should have done more research on, and got accepted. I paid for some exam that is similar to TEAS and passed with flying colors. They then interviewed me and eventually told me I was accepted. The final step is meeting with the financial aid department and setting that up. A day before I was suppose to do that I had a death in the family. Although not getting back to the school is unprofessional you can imagine that I had much more on my mind. They finally stopped calling me and emailing about a month later. Six months later, after everything had settled down, I contacted them again by email and by phone to tell them I was interested in the RN program. I was told multiple times that someone would get back to me and they never did. I finally decided to go to CSN and get my degree in nursing from them. I couldn't have made a better decision. The tuition is about one tenth of the cost of Apollo and the program is no as competitive as you think. The program accepts about 180 students and only about 220 apply. You do have to have quite a few points (about 27 out of 34) and you should have all optional pre reqs done by the time you apply. I guess I count it as a blessing in disguise because right now the program could be shut down at Apollo and I would be out money, a career, and years of my life.

Carrington college will be phasing out their RN program according to my friend who is currently going there. The first graduating class did not meet the 85% NCLEX pass rate so her class, I think fall '09 will be the last class to graduate. She said that all students who were accepeted later than her group would have to find another program to transfer to. BOGUS if you ask me. I was supposed to be the next group to be accepted in the program -_- nobody has yet to contact me and inform me of this officially.
