Hello all,
I am wanting to deploy to Iraq or Afghanistan. I was wondering if anyone had any great contacts? My 8A packet is going in front of the board shortly. I also have my CCRN. I have always wanted to deploy, and my unit is usually backfill stateside, which I dont want. I also want to know are there any incentives for deploying, like schools?
Thanks

I'm not sure what branch of service you are in - assuming Army.
Incentives for deploying: tax free...combat pay....
I have never heard of anyone being offered a school or any other incentive to deploy.
However, it can be a great experience and rewarding in itself.. good luck to you!!!
yah i know there are a lot of incentives for deployment. Im having a heck of a time trying to deploy.
THanks

So, I am not quite understanding here.....Your packet is going in front of boards shortly for what? It sounds like you are already commissioned....Lt? Are you up for promotion? Are you active or reserve?
I know a few nurses from my unit that seem to have no problem deploying to Iraq, Afghan, Kuwait, etc...... Are you "going-up the chain of command?"
Where is the hold up?

I am going up for my second identifier, the 8A ICU identifier, according to HRC people need to review my paperwork. Oh and I am also up for promotion in Jan. but its automatic 2nd to 1st.
Second, yes I have been going up my chain of my command. I am a reservist in a backfill unit. Nobody seems to know anything. Any suggestions?
Hi JL,
Good luck with your 8A indentifier and the 2 to 1Lt !!
So, having not done this personally, I can only add ideas....
Have you tried your regionally headquarters (for me, it is in Seattle). Also, I noticed that HRC in St. Louis has (on their phone listings) a dept. of retention and recruitment, (your "career manager") you could call them.
On the HRC website: https://www.hrc.army.mil/site/protect/Reserve/index.htm check the moblizations/volunteering.
On our unit, "upcoming moblizations needing people" are announced frequently (last month, they were looking for some medics for Bagdad in Sept.09....).
Good luck,

hey leathers!! we were in oblc together i think. august right? good luck trying to deploy, i've contacted HRC directly several times with no luck. a guy named mr. boone is who to talk to, but there hasnt been anything available. they mostly need people for backfill missions.
I too have contacted many people in HRC and moblizations.....There are no "oconus" 8a (or 66h) slots for 2009. There is one 8a slot for Iraq 2010. Currently, that is it......
good luck

Hello All:
I agree with everyone else: if you are in the RC you can contact your S1 and/or on AKO hit the volunteer button
If you are AD talk to your Chief Nurse and go on AKO and volunteer, but I would say first tell your CN that you want to volunteer and that you put your name out there. Then go down to S1 and see if there are any slots you could fill
Much easier to deploy (AD) if you have ASI 8A.

How come you guys have a hard time getting activated. My NOSC is actually asking people if they want to volunteer to deployed.
dont know, tried forever though. tell them to call me, ill go!!!!
