Wanting deployment

Published

Hello all,

I am wanting to deploy to Iraq or Afghanistan. I was wondering if anyone had any great contacts? My 8A packet is going in front of the board shortly. I also have my CCRN. I have always wanted to deploy, and my unit is usually backfill stateside, which I dont want. I also want to know are there any incentives for deploying, like schools?

Thanks

Lt Leathers

GET IN LINE EVERYONE!!.. They need to revamp the system. Everyone who wants to go should go to the head of the line!! This "volunteering system" isn't that impressive to me. We try, they say no!

Regarding wanting to deploy:

I got a look-see at an email from our Deputy CMDR that states "...looking for 66E, 66C, 66H8A, 66H5M volunteers for 21st/28th CSH rotations because everyone in the GPRMC has already deployed at least once....also looking for 66H volunteers to fill the 21st and 28th CSH. These units will be going out late 2009 and early 2010"

This in particular is for AC but for those Reservists' out there go to your S1 and put your name "out there" or go to AKO and click the volunteer button.

I know for a fact, and it was mentioned on this forum by one of our faithful posters, that the 8A slots are filled up - for now. But things have a habit of changing (for better or worse) at great speed especially in the Army. With President Obama hoping to stick to his time-line of gradual troop withdrawal from Iraq to complete withdrawal by 2011 AND with the anticipated number of troops going to Afghanistan increasing at the same time, who knows where we will be. {{Also remember there will be (fingers crossed) a much longer at home dwell time of ~18 months}}

The ANC has already seen a decrease in time spent down range from 12-15 months to 6 months (PROFIS). I think many of us want to volunteer because we know when we are there someone gets to "go home" But also remember that "we" are needed here, at home: at the VA's, at the MTF's, at the WTU's, at the MEDCEN's....

hey lt leathers and jbrecon2,

i was in oblc with u guys also (jb - njfd right?). I am running into the same problem. I am currently studying for my CEN and then will apply for M5 identifier and hopefully that will help. Volunteering on HRC website and speaking to "career manager" in St L hasn't helped. My S1 says she will keep her ears open. in the meantime, I am heading down to Camp Bullis again because i can't get enough of that place. I am taking the Combat Casualty Care Course (C4) from 2/19-2/26. It looks pretty cool. First 3 days is the Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) and then 5 days of training in field. if u already have TNCC cert then u can audit the docs Advanced Trauma Surgery Course. I had to beg to get my unit to send me and I think it will be worthwhile. Check it out at :

I will let u guys know how the class is.

Athena- where are you stationed now? u know capt M is heading to Germany for 2 years? hope all is well. u have a ton of useful knowledge as always.

My goodness, long time no hear from you! I thought, for sure, we would get a chance to meet and chat while at the 7238th.....

I am at Fort Bliss....El Paso isn't Brooklyn, that is for dang sure :smokin: But I like it here and I enjoy working at the MEDCEN

WOW you lucky dog! Going to C4!

Hey check out this web site. I had posted it on another thread:

https://www.hrc.army.mil/site/protect/Reserve/soldierservices/tours/tourscom.htm

it is for Officers looking to volunteer for CONUS or OCONUS

Looks like I might go to CCC in July. I need to complete Phase 2 within 2 years of my date of enrollment (for phase 1) and it is up in August so July it is (unless I get my "marching orders" early or something else comes up...)

Yes I keep in touch with CPT M and I am excited for him! Germany is nice....

Well, I am off to sleep. Worked last night.

Are you still with the 7238th?

Stay Safe!
