Walden now has a Psych NP program

I just saw on Walden University's website that they will offer a Psychiatric NP program starting in May. The school is expensive and for-profit, but it does offer another option. I think they may be the first for-profit school with this NP track in an MSN program.

What a horrible idea.

Horrible Idea?

Wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole myself. I'm very biased against for-profits. I do think it's the first for-profit to offer PMHNP, and it's a bad sign.

Most programs are now online except for a few mandatory campus visits, and the clinical hours.

There are many quality programs, so all you have to do is search for them. Some state programs even charge you resident rate tuition for the online programs.

Anyone in Houston area considering PMHNP course online or in the program at Walden university at present ?

OK, this may be off topic but does anyone know how a school can start offering a new NP specialty from their current offerings? Is CCNE certification a blanket stamp of approval that allows schools to just add NP tracks on the basis of the fact that the MSN program is accredited. I'm really scratching my head on this because having a handful of part-time PMHNP faculty writing online syllabi and lectures then making students go out to find their own preceptors for clinicals should never be a minimum criteria for approving a new NP track.

Walden has no entry standards whatsoever. You have a pulse, a license, and a checkbook, you are in!

So, file this degree mill under BAD IDEAS for the NP profession.

Juan, after all these years, are you still hating on Walden for no reason? Really...? Sad...Well I'm a proud Walden graduate, and I have done just fine without a "real" education. And to think people even let me provide their healthcare for them with no real education or training....weird.

Even a crappy sluice with low grade dirt will produce a few flecks of gold... doesn't mean it's a good thing.

Me hating? no, just not buying the whole predatory marketing and not making sure students have preceptors which I believe should be the school's responsibility. Of course you got an education that led to you getting licensed or certified whatever the case may be.

Nothing weird about that at all. You breezed through your program on your own terms while some others who struggled because they couldn't get clinical placements on their own were delayed.

Also, the point of my previous post was just to express disappointment in how easy it is to set up a PMHNP program with faculty who write online didactic material and not have to recruit experienced and practicing PMHNP's who will work with students on the field.

LOL...I have watched you "HATE" on Walden for over 6 years now. You have proclaimed to the world that the educations that is received from Walden must be sub-standard. Your whole premise is bigoted, and reeks of some self perceived superiority based on where you attended school. I would love for you to follow me in a critical access hospital out in the middle of nowhere for a few days treating everything from rashes to amputations and all conditions in between, and see how superior you feel then....WOW!
