How can he expect the country to practice social distancing and wear masks in public if he isn't practicing what he preaches?

PLEASE: No political comments. This is NOT about politics but rather about adhering to policies.

It is possible that he he took off his mask for the camera. Know any government leaders who wear masks on television or internet? because it looks unprofessional and undignified. I think the general public wants to see their leaders' faces, communicating confidence and a smile. IMO.

I am not justifying this or defending him. Politicians are notoriously hypocritical or double-standard, everywhere. You think all the governors practice social distance and wear masks in their free time? I doubt it.

I think that if Pence had worn a mask, and asked people to comply with his administrations's policies, and ignore any tweets contradicting them, and that this is really serious, and that the country needs their help, some people who respect him would have done their part in making America great again by helping reduce the spread of Covid 19.

And he would have been fired.

Yes, Fired, but it takes courage to lead at a time like this. To bad he can't step up and do the right thing for the nation. I wonder how Winston Churchill would handle this pandemic?
