Since we are such a diverse group here I though it would be fun to have our own poll-let's see if we at allnurses reflect the results we'll wake up to on Wednesday(or Thursday or sometime in the next month) It should be an interesting week.....
I voted for Bush. I did not vote my self-interests, as I believe a Democratic president would benefit many of the things I believe in. However, I adamantly do not want a war on US soil. I believe Kerry and his idea of a "kinder war" would increase the United States' vulnerability. My dad has been dead for many years, but he did use a line (author unknown) which was kinda funny. Please don't take offense as none is intended.
"If you are a Republican at 20, you don't have a heart. If you are a Democrat at 50, you don't have a brain."
I do hope Bush is reelected, however, mostly I just want the election to be over. And boy oh boy, do I hope we know tomorrow, so life can move on.
It's sad that this election has people voting against their own self-interests. Which I always thought the whole point of voting was. If you are 50 and te don't vote democtratic I hope you have a nice cushion in the bank or a great career because you won't be able to afford to retire at 62. As far as the war being fought here well it started here on 9/11 and frankly in 3 years we are a much at risk as we were 3 years ago. Granted Bush did capture Saddam big deal he was no real threat. Bin Laden is still out there and guess what he has our weapons to bomb us with now.
Thanks Bush!!! The way he's going we'll all be dead in 4 more years.:angryfire
Hmm see this is just the sort of thing that is confusing. I feel exactly the same about Bush and his tax policies, they only hurt me an average middle income worker, I always have had better cost of living during Democratic presidencies, and prices always sore duriing republican reign.Bush has created the War, and given false reasoning and continues to claim it is to protect us from Terroist when It does nothing of the kind. Bush uses Terror as his weapon and fear just as I mentioned dictators do. War on American soil is not even an issue to me, I don't feel that is a realistic possibility and feel that is another of Bushes terror tactics.
just ask yourself who is making money off of this war? War has always been a fund raising tool and usually a job creator which we haven't had the benfit of from this one.
I pray you are right when you say that a war on American soil is not a possibility. An act of war was committed on 9/11/01. If they did it once and suceeded then you can bet they want to do it again.
For this gal, it's not the political party that concerns me. Neither one is looking out for little people like us: Clinton opened the doors for outsourcing (China granted Permanent Favored Nation Trade status & NAFTA), and Bush has done nothing to stem the flow.
Kerry makes some appealing points. But I could never vote for anyone who promises to make abortion available to every woman at any time during her pregnancy. He pledged to overturn the ban on partial birth abortion first thing upon taking office.
What do we call it when one segment of society (moms & doctors) controls whether another segment of society (the unborn) has a right to live.
Abortion isn't good for moms either, not physically or emotionally.
A mere 20 years ago, our democratic politicians were 50/50 pro-life. In fact, Jimmy Carter is staunchly pro-life and recently wrote a letter to the Plains, GA newspaper to clarify just that point.
Some of you will probably slam me -- hope not. But there it is.

What you mention 9/11 was a terrorist act, wars are followed up by immediate takeover or sustained battle. Commiting an act of terroism is vastly different than a sustained war on American soil, it is the very fear of which other countries can rely that Americans are armed and will defend American soil to the death, then we would be the insurgents and let me tell you there would be heel to pay.
I have four guns in my house and now that you mention it I don't have enough ammo so I will go out now and buy about 200 rounds for each of my weapons. I know that every member of my family has at least two and most have more than that.
Terroism can not be stopped. Here in OKC we had a homegrown terrorist use fertilizer to blow up the federal building. People walk into schools, post offices, office buildings or where ever and kill everyone there, these are not acts of war but terror or insanity. To live your life in fear of such things is to diminish life and become a paraniod schizoprhenic. Oh yeah I forgot the CIC wants us to feel that way!

Again you can't stop abortion either. If a woman or a man for that matter wants a child aborted they will make it happen. Offering clean sterile facilities that will provide this service justs cuts down on the number of infection and miscarriages by abuse.
Hey! Me too! :)Here in OKC....

Agatha, what bothers me most about taking away abortion rights is -- where does it stop? Pharmacists are already withholding morning after pills and, in at least one case, contraceptives. And most people would agree with using these, especially contraceptives.
The NRA comes unglued if anyone wants to take away "cop killer" bullets or assault weapons because their rights will be eroded. Yet, we won't erode women's rights by taking away a little bit? And this is with a preponderance of history of more women being denied civil rights than guys with guns.
It would be a better world if no woman felt the need for an abortion. But the need is there, and has been there for centuries. You can't sweep that away overnight. Societal change is hard and takes time.
I support your right to be pro-life. I'll continue to be pro-choice.
Just got in from work and went directly to vote.
Go Kerry/Edwards !
The important thing is that we are excercising our right to vote. I consider it an honor, a privelege, a right, and a duty.
Yes, nearly a dead heat even here !
Now I'm going to take a nap, then kick back on the couch with popcorn, cheese and crackers, grapes... you name it, and watch the entire circus on TV ! And I actually get to sleep in tomorrow, as I just happen to be off !
Whoooooot !
