Before I get off on my tangent here, let me say that I know that our uniforms could be worse. I've seen what some other folks have posted on here. Our uniforms consist of navy blue scrub pants with white polo shirts. I don't get the point of having the nursing students wear polo shirts! The "new" incoming students are purchasing scrub tops. They are not giving the students who are already in the program the opportunity to get these, we are being forced to stick with the polo shirts.
Besides being ugly and looking ridiculous, they are uncomfortable. They twist up when you are moving patients around and the collar bunches up. You end up looking very unprofessional and you walk around adjusting your shirt all the time. I just don't understand why they can't let ALL of the students have the option to purchase the new scrub tops.
I'm sorry about the rant. I've been off from classes all summer and haven't been on here much, but just got this news and needed to vent.
Thanks for listening!
That does sound crappy, I feel your pain.
We are very lucky to have hunter green Cherokee Workwear pants and a white scrub top with a white lab coat, love it.
Just remember, when you graduate you can probably wear whatever scrubs you want! I even bought a Bob the Builder scrub top, (save it all you haters) I love it.
Our uniform is navy blue Cherokee scrub pants and top, with the school name embroidered on the top in green. The other university in town gets to wear navy scrub pants and a white polo top with their name and school logo embroidered on..I think they look way more professional than we do. The grass is always greener, I guess :chuckle
Everyone has their uniform horror stories....I've read many of them on here, which is why I almost didn't post anything. I was just so fired up!
I know that compared to many, many people that my uniform is not that bad. I just spent most of last semester being ticked off at my top for one reason or another and like I said, it is the most ill-fitting polo shirt I have ever owned.
Summerlin - I'm so sorry for your unfortunate uniform. I'm going to follow the advice of FutureNOVARN and just get through it and buy the scrubs I want when I am done. :heartbeat
Our uniforms are realllllly old. They haven't changed them in who knows how long. We have to wear a white polo with our college's name on it, a hideous white vest to wear over the polo shirt, lovely white scrub pants, and a long white jacket. The worst part is that we have to buy the old timey Nursing caps. It's white with green trim and barely fits on our heads, so we slightly resemble Aladdin. Thank goodness we don't have to wear the caps to clinicals, just to pinning!
Oh and we have the option to buy a white skirt instead of regular scrub pants, but I don't think anyone will go for that.
Back in the day...1992, I had to wear whites (including nylons if I wanted to wear a skirt or dress) and over that we had a pink and white striped smock with blue piping on the edges, big buttons on the sides [think of a sandwich sign and you have the picture], the men wore only whites not the smock. Everyone thought we were candy stripers and the men were doctors. Good grief!
They didn't change because they wanted everyone to look the same. They could not make it mandatory because you have to remember....some students are very tight on funds and may not have the money to go out and purchase a new scrub top when they already have the shirts that were originally required.
Think about it...how would most students feel if they were required to purchase new uniforms half-way through the program???
But everyone isn't looking the same...if half the school is wearing the polo shirts and half the scrub tops. In that way..they should have atleast made it an option for those with the polo shirts to get the scrub tops. That way..there would be more students wearing the new tops.
