  1. I quit my CNA job. With all the budget cuts I couldn't make a living off my pay (7.25 an hour!!) and the work is just to much for such a little amount of pay. I was working 6 days a week, in school 4 with 2 small children and I would just cry after every shift. The kicker was when my son got sick and was admitted to the hospital just a few days ago. I called in (16 hours before my shift when I was assured my son was going to have to stay a few days.) The nurse who took my call in chewed me out! I haven't called in in the 2 1/2 years I've been with this faciltiy! She said it was because of people like me that they are always short staffed. I told her I'd bring in an excuse from the hospital, to which she replied "Oh, like it's not hard to trick a hospital out of an excuse!". So I'll admit I didn't handle the situation well- I replied that if it weren't for hateful people like her that so many people wouldn't dread coming to work, and that unlike her, the idea of "talking" a hospital out of an excuse never crossed my mind. Then I quit in the heat of rage! I reported her to the DON when I went in for my last check, but she told me I couldn't report it since I was no longer an employee. I have to say, I feel like a weight has been lifted off of my back. I found a job that works better for me, and I'm pretty happy. Good Luck to all of you pursuing your CNA, know that this post isn't meant to discourage anyone, just to vent. The only thing I'll miss are my residents who I grew to love like family. P.S- My son had a massive infection and was in hospital for 4 days, but has been released and seems to be doing well!
  2. Hi. I hope to be starting in the Spring. I'm an alternate. Oh well, I might still get in!
  3. Congrats to everyone who was accepted! I am an alternate. Hopefully I'll see you guys in NSG 101! So, just curious, to anyone in the program, what goes on at the orientation?
  4. So I guess you guys haven't heard anything yet? I dont know why you would have. I guess I'm just anxious! I went to the first conference so it's been so long since I heard anything at all from the nursing department. I'm so sick of waiting, I've been doing pre-reqs for 1 1/2 years and still have another semester to go...If i'm lucky!! I was going to apply to LPN also just to double my chances, but I decided against it. I want to be an RN, then get my MSN and no offense to LPNs but it seems like it adds more time on. well i'll stop posting useless stuff!LOL. Can't wait to find out!!
  5. Western Ky, applied to WKCTC for spring admission.
  6. Chill, it's just to let off steam so we don't yell these things in their faces! And yea, it is a rant, that's probably why it seems like a rant. Sorry I just gave out my last gold star to my 2 year old, or it would be all yours Captain Obvious. LOL.
  7. You guys are to sweet!
  8. Me to. I mean, why is your family so much better than the roomate?? It's really bad when the families of roomates don't get along!
  9. I work at a nursing home as a CNA.
  10. Why do people get hateful when you get all A's? I earned everyone of those A's! It's not like anyone handed anything to me. I worked my butt off, came to every class, did ALL the extra credit, and spent hours studying for every test. And you slept, texted, surfed Myspace, and never showed up. I'm sorry you thought you could learn through Osmosis!!!
  11. I don't see how you do it without all those pockets! I have like 10 combining my pants and shirt!
  12. Thanks. Shouldn't be to long now!
  13. I was a med tech, and if you had asked me this question last year I'd have argued about how much easier CMTs make it on the nurses. BUT Let me share a personal expirience with you guys and hope I don't get flamed!! My LTC routinely sends it's CNAs to a one semester class, and upon passing said class you are a CMT (certified med tech) and can pass meds. BUT they send more people than they need CMTs so they always have someone to call if they need a CMT. As a result, sometimes the CMT on the med cart hasn't passed meds in quite a while. Within 3 months of starting this job, I went to CMT school. I trained for 1 week on the cart after passing the class, but there were no full time positions as a CMT so I continued to work as aide. One day I got called in to work the cart (I had probably worked it 5 times or so in 4 months). I was cocky, no problem, passing pills was easy. Until I almost gave a resident a BP med...as he was bottoming out! I didn't understand the phisilogical aspect of passing meds. Thank god for the nurse who was around and stopped me from giving the pill. I was ashamed of myself. It's not that I was trying to hurt anyone, I was just ignorant. I never worked the cart again and let my CMT liscense lapse. I will never pass another pill until I am an RN. If we keep letting CMTs pass pills blindly, the residents will suffer. And they are blind in the sense that they are taught little about drug effects with medical conditions, different reasons you shouldn't pass a med, etc... I know-i passed the class. We were taught major med groups and little else. Please don't get to mad at me, I was naive and I have MORE than learned my lesson! I just thought some insight from someone who was a med tech would be helpful to the debate.
  14. I'm also applying to school for 2010 Spring semester. I should find out in the next 2 weeks if I got in! I'm so excited and really nervous!
  15. I'm going for my ADN then hopefully on to MSN. I want to pace myself (got small children) and I can't relocate. I also don't have gobs of money and community college is cheaper.
