Vanderbilt's Nurse Residency Program

U.S.A. Tennessee

Published

Does anyone have any advice on how to make a strong letter of intent for Vanderbilt's Nurse residency program? I know they accept a lot of applicants for each cohort but I'm not sure how many people actually apply and how competetive it actually is. If there is anyone on here that is currently in the program, was previously or knows anyone who has gone through the program, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

from slammin121684 yes you have to pay for parking but its only a few dollar taken out of your second paycheck. initally you pay a flat 30 fee to park as a temporary employee that allows you to park for about 4 months until your unit and **** is picked.

Just to confirm...

ED is royal blue dress code. When you go through, a lot of the units will have t-shirts they can wear. ED is the only unit that doesn't allow that... but when you're rotating through, prior to match day, it's okay to wear non-royal blue and a t-shirt.

Parking isn't a few dollars if you end up on day-shift unless you got for a shuttle lot some distance away. Parking on days can go beyong 72$ a month. It's easier on night shift and most critical care units guarantee that you will be on nights. This was not the case in the ED. There was possibility for day shift in the ED and some others were open for shifts like 3-3, 11-11 and 1-1. If you get nights, some of the garages are as cheap as 10.72$ a month.

Hey guys! I have actually been following this thread for a really long time now waiting for my chance to apply to the residency program! I was just wondering if anyone has any idea of when they open the application for the Winter 2011 program? Looking at how early they opened the Fall 2010 program it seems like the application should already be open for the Winter program. Anyway just wondering if anyone knows when it opened up last year or anything!

Thanks!

[color=#002060]i wrote to them and they said : winter 2011 cohort dates for posting the program position: 8/2/10 with a deadline of 9/17/10. program start date is 1/31/11. hope that helps! good luck

Awesome! Thanks! Good luck to you too!

Hello to everyone there :clown:, Just wondering for the people that started the program this year could you let us know (the ones applying for the Winter 2011 program) how the program is? , and if it was worth it, I am currently in Florida so i want to make sure I am making the right decision, Thank You!!!!

I think it's absolutely worth it! (Of course this is only Day #2.) It's exciting to work some place that really seems to want you to love your job. I actually had a job that I left for this opportunity. AND I moved from Colorado! Good luck!:yeah:

Thank You Chuburna! and congrats!!! I can't imagine how exciting it must be!! I am in the task of writing my little essay today :D; Good Luck as well in your nursing career!

I also just started the residency program and LOVE it!! I was an internal employee of Vanderbilt so the transition has been amazing. They really want you to be comfortable and they love to educate all of the new grads. Good luck to those applying in the Winter. Please feel free to pm me with any questions.

I too am applying for the 2011 residency and my question is regarding men who apply. From what I can tell from looking at prior classes, there really aren't that many men in the classes. It's approximately 10%. Is it just that a lot of men don't apply, because I'd like to assume that being male or female doesn't matter. Any takers?

The 10% is an accurate representation of total males in nursing. I'm a male and was accepted to 's ICU program for 2010. And while merit did play a large role in me being accepted, I would not be surprised if the 10% of the male nurses you see are based on 10% of the nursing application population being male.

I will be applying this Fall for next Summer's cohort. Does anyone who has been accepted (specifically to the peds track) have any advice about the application process? Thanks!!!
