  1. And then you get shift differential for evening/nights and weekends. Not the best pay in town but the benefits and experience are making the difference for me!
  2. The Vanderbilt Nurse Residency program is an awesome place for new grads in Nashville! It's competitive but, if you get in, it's a great opportunity to grow from new grad to "real" nurse! There's a thread here at allnurses. Just search Vanderbilt Nurse Residency. The next application deadline is coming up quickly! Good luck.
  3. I think it's absolutely worth it! (Of course this is only Day #2.) It's exciting to work some place that really seems to want you to love your job. I actually had a job that I left for this opportunity. AND I moved from Colorado! Good luck!
  4. Just a quick update: I gave my letter to my manager yesterday and it went better than expected! She cried - said she was happy for me and sad for herself. She also said I would be welcome back if/when I come back to town! Thanks for all your advice!!
  5. NurstTrishaH ~ I had already come to the same conclusion! Thanks for reinforcing my thought process!
  6. Wow! Thanks for all your suggestions. Sometimes it's hard to keep such a personal letter professional - so the tips and comments are greatly appreciated.
  7. this is my first post (so i hope i'm doing it correctly)!! i am a fairly new nurse - 6 months employed as a nurse, to be exact. i have a good job and have fantastic co-workers! i have worked in various jobs at this hospital for 5 years, working full time while in school. i now have an opportunity to move to another state to work at a major university hospital. (i also hope to earn my graduate degree from this university.) i am planning on giving my letter of resignation next tuesday (june 1) and would really appreciate your feedback! i am giving this to my unit nurse manager and will also deliver a copy to hr. here's what i have: dear yyy, after much consideration it is with regret that i write this letter of resignation. although i have thoroughly enjoyed the past five years at xyz hospital, my last day will be june 18, 2010. i am relocating to (anothertown, anotherstate) where i will be helping care for an elderly family member. i have also accepted a position at abc university medical center as a nurse resident. i would like to take this opportunity to express my genuine appreciation to you as my supervisor, as well as many friends and colleagues here at xyz hospital. it has been a privilege and a pleasure to have served here for over five years! i appreciate the personal and professional growth i have experienced and the relationships i have established. i hope that, if circumstances change, i will someday return to my "home" of xyz hospital! sincerely, thought? comments? feedback?? thanks!!!
  8. slammin121684: Hi! I think I just sent you an email, too. I'm in Colorado and will be moving out to Nashville for the Nurse Residency Program, too! Looking forward to meeting all my "new friends"!!
