Vanderbilt's Nurse Residency Program

U.S.A. Tennessee

Does anyone have any advice on how to make a strong letter of intent for Vanderbilt's Nurse residency program? I know they accept a lot of applicants for each cohort but I'm not sure how many people actually apply and how competetive it actually is. If there is anyone on here that is currently in the program, was previously or knows anyone who has gone through the program, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Okay just one more question, how is parking at the hospital. Do you have to pay?

I just got my acceptance letter into the program!! I'm so excited!! Now I have 7 offers of employment to sort through. was my first choice from the beginning though! I do have a question to those who chose the Pediatric Track. Since I was selected for the Pediatric Track, am I correct in understanding that I get to pick which track under that (critical care or medical)?

That did help thank you. I was wondering if you have any apartment suggestions close to vandy not to pricey.

I think I will have to keep it under $1000. I also have a small dog so it limits me a bit. I am out here in Colorado so I have only been searching online. Do you know anything about Gale Lofts.

No, I have not heard of Gale Lofts. I am actually thinking about Alara Farms. It is out in Franklin. Not too far from Vanderbilt. It even has a doggy run at the apartments. It has gotten great reviews. :yeah:

Wow Jan, what are your other offers? Are they all over the country? The graduating class at my school is really upset because our local hospitals are not hiring anyone this semester. It's good to hear someone has offers to "sort through!" lol (I am graduating next semester and am going to apply for the Jan '11 residency when it comes up.)

congrats to everyone who is in. I am on peds waitlist. Does anyone have info on how many get on wait list, how many get in, if any?

I was on the wait list for adult medical/surgical. Did anyone get in on the wait list? I got an email saying that there was nothing now but they would keep me on the wait list until the start day of July 12th. I was just wondering if anyone got in or were all the slots taken?

Thanks.

didn't get off wait list for peds. I'm really disappointed and don't have a clue how likely it will be that anything will open in July. have to move forward-need to start getting some experience.

Hi! I think I just sent you an email, too. I'm in Colorado and will be moving out to Nashville for the Nurse Residency Program, too! Looking forward to meeting all my "new friends"!!

Yes, I just replied to that email we should keep in touch. When do you plan on doing the big move?

Redhead, I had offers from childrens hospitals all over the country and would have been hired directly into their NICU. As far west as Utah as far down south as south Carolina. There are jobs you just have to look really hard for them and find out who to talk to at each place. My school refused to help because I was applying out of state. I started looking in the fall semester of my senior year of hospitals I would love to work at and went from there. All my apps were due between feb and march for a job that started in the summer. Some places you only had 3 days to apply. It is possible!! I had several offers and was at the top of my listso when I got offered I immediately accepted. You have to be willing to look outside of the state ur in, ESP if you wanted peds or NICU like I did. It is possible but it is expensive to fly all over for the interviews. Good luck with applying to Vandy!!! I hope u get it!!! Make sure u know the deadlines and give a heads up to those you want to write a reference for you!! Maybe I'll see you in January!!

Does anyone know when the peds track people will find out which track we are in?

For those who have gone through the program before - are there any unit specific dress codes we need to be aware of? I'm going to be starting in the critical care residency and at the hospital I work at now anyone in critical care has to wear royal blue. I know for orientation it said we can wear whatever as long as it's not all black, but once we get assigned to a specific unit is there a different dress code? Just wondering so I know what new scrubs to buy! Thanks for your help! :o)

@ tmy5009

Some units do have dress codes - Trauma nurses wear all black scrubs and I believe ER is royal blue. But other than OR everyone wears their regular scrubs.
