I know it's still early, but the application process starts in 2 days and I'm getting antzy about just applying. I saw past threads on here about previous cohort application process and wanted to start one for the summer cohort. I'm applying with one of my friends from school, and we both have Vandy as our #1 choice.
Anyone else on here thinking about applying soon?
Hi Everyone! I too am applying for the Summer 2011 NRP and the process is very nerve racking b/c it is a very prestigious organization to work for! My grandma passed away over the holiday break so I got behind on my application packet with everything. I have everything in the app packet done and ready to go but I can't get passed this letter of intent. I think I've rewritten in a million times! It's really hard summerizing in one page all 3 questions and give an accurate reflection of them as well as who you are and what you offer. Any advice because I need to send it out this week. The NRP is the only place I'm applying because I want it that bad! I am in Michigan but was born in Nashville and we moved here when I was a kid. I'm ready to go back home! :) I'm applying for the Women's Health Track which I'm very excited to see was added since I will be applying at VU fall 2012 to pursue my midwifery degree. I look forward to learning any advice and seeing what happens!
Hey y'all! I'm applying too and am so nervous! If anyone has any good advice, I'd love to hear it and I'll be happy to share anything I hear too. One girl who I know got it from last cohort was saying the interview took 1 1/2 hrs...!! I'm applying to the pedi track in hopes of getting into the NICU. I'm also from Texas - any other Texans applying? :)
Oh my, I'm gonna have to do some serious interview prep if it takes that long! Wow. I just put my application in the mail yesterday, and it should be there by Friday :) My friend that also applied said that she got an email with a confirmation of receipt, which is pretty comforting to know. I'm so nervous, but there is nothing else I can do. I hope I get an interview!
Found this on a Vandy nurse newsletter just in case anyone is curious... these were the numbers from summer 2010!
788 inquiries
571 applications
301 interviews
162 residents- 43 pediatrics, 30 adult medicine, 24 adult surgical, 65 adult critical care
28 states, 73 different nursing programs
81% BSN, 18% ASN/ADN, 1% MSN
hope this settles some nerves... good luck to everyone!!!
I attended one semester at Vandy and I feel that it is not worth the money. In talking to other nurses I hear that I'm not the only one who feels that way. They attempt to rush their nursing programs and to push you into the next step such as RN to BSN or BSN to MSN, and of course their phD. Just my 2 cents.
MNCSN-- I think that we will find out in mid-February whether or not we were selected for an interview. I looked at the thread from last year, and it looks like some people first got an e-mail around Feb. 10th. Keep in mind, the application deadline might have been different last year, so it could be a little later this year.
Hopefully they give you a time frame let you pick a day, considering that we all have different clinical schedules (and I know that my school is very strict and will NOT allow you to miss a day of clinical for anything!)
Hope this helps :)

Hey, everyone! I submitted the online app over the weekend, still anxiously awaiting the email packet.
I am applying for Women's Health, as well. I'm thrilled they have added it back. My desire to work with women is what compelled me to enter nursing school to begin with, and like Alliebobally07 I hope to become a CNM one day.
Hope everyone had a great holiday and new year, good luck to all!!!
