Vanderbilt Pre-Specialty Entry 2021

Published

I noticed there was not a thread created for Vanderbilt pre-specialty nursing for 2021, so I created one. Is anyone already preparing for this upcoming application cycle?

Is it recommended to add continuing education courses if it is relevant to the specialty that I am applying for? I have taken several through my employer that are related to Midwifery. Is this something I should add? If so, where?

Yes! Of course! I put my continuing education underneath it’s own title. I titled it “professional development”

a recruiter from Mayo Clinic gave me that info.

Thank you! Did you put this under the experience tab?

Hey ya'll. I'm a current PreSpecialty student.

I remember how many concerns and questions I had during the application process last year, so I'm happy to be a resource if you have questions!

Saw the post above about cost. For 2020-2021, the tuition is roughly $74K for the PreSpecialty year and $70K for the Specialty year (this will likely increase for 2021-2022). You will receive an email about financial aid and tuition cost even before you're accepted, so keep an eye out. I think I received it in January. Of course, there are other costs that you need to be prepared for (housing, books, supplies, scrubs, etc), but they will offer you a loan that should be able to cover all of that in case you need it.

Thanks for dropping in! My million dollar question is simply - how do you like the program so far? Any major complaints? tia!

Did anyone attend the virtual open house this weekend?

Your stats are so good! I just graduated undergrad and my GPA is a 3.5. I still have to finish anatomy and micro so I'm definitely worried. I majored in public health and psych so I have a good amount of experience with volunteering and research. This program is for sure a reach for me...

I studied abroad too! Hopefully, that adds to our application

@KAS212 I have study abroad, too! Where did you go?

@ad2020 I applied 2 years ago without all the prerequisites and without my CNA experience and was waitlisted. Believe in yourself!

@KMD51

I went to New Zealand! LOL kind of random, I know. Where did you guys go??

But yes I think it will add sooo much to our applications. I honestly almost forgot to even talk about it.

I never went anywhere for fun, but if you guys ever took a family trip or something to like Europe or Africa I would add that as well. Travel experience is travel experience and either way you are opening yourself up to diverse cultures.

That’s a great idea! I did policy and outreach work in Puerto Rico.
