Vanderbilt Pre-Specialty Entry 2021

Published

I noticed there was not a thread created for Vanderbilt pre-specialty nursing for 2021, so I created one. Is anyone already preparing for this upcoming application cycle?

I only applied here too.

Thank you! Did you put this under the experience tab?

I am sorry I am just now seeing this. But yes I put it underneath experiences.

I’m applying to AG-ACNP. I applied a couple years ago and was waitlisted. I didn’t apply to other programs then, but I am now as a back-up. I would list the other schools you applied to simply because nursing is an honest profession. I imagine most people have also applied to multiple programs.

Was there a spot on the application where it asked where else we applied? If so I totally missed it.

I only applied two other places - Yale and Rush. I know there's a decent chance I get rejected to all three, but I feel strongly enough about these programs I'd rather reapply along with a broader search next year than go somewhere else.

I'm going for midwifery!

Last question on the personal tab says: To which other schools or programs are you applying?

I get a small feeling that they are speaking to only Vanderbilt programs and schools.

For example: Vanderbilt School of Business, their MBA program.

I think they are curious to see if you are passionate about nursing, or are you just applying to a bunch of different programs because you do not know what you want to do with your life?

I say this because they gave examples and only listed Vanderbilt programs

You may be right because it was said at the open house that their application is mostly a template used by other Vanderbilt grad programs.

Now it's starting to come back to me and I interpreted it this way as well (are you applying for a dual degree or other Vanderbilt programs). That said I'm wishing I could go back and read through my app again to check more closely. I wonder if I should ask if they can reopen (I already submitted...) AH always something to feel nervous about.

@secondtimer14 I wouldn’t sweat it!

I am applying to the AGNCP program, I am soo stressed because my undergraduate GPA falls under 3.0, Due to financial issues, I had to work when I wasn't in class, so my grades suffered a little and I did not have the time for extracurriculars. I have to remind myself it is a holistic program and I miss every shot not taken. My science GPA is currently at 3.6, enrolled in AP 1, and taking AP 2 in the Spring. I am having a hard time articulating my thoughts within the word count. Anyone else applying to the AGNCP specialty? We are in the final countdown, good luck to everyone!!

Hi guys!

How do you answer the following question? I don't have any obligations?

Vanderbilt University School of Nursing’s programs are delivered in accelerated and advanced formats. How have you prepared to manage personal and professional obligations during your completion of a rigorous graduate nursing program?

I talked about managing my work, my family, and my full time studies in an RN to BSN program simultaneously, my best personal traits that led to success and would allow me to be successful in grad school, etc. I am applying for direct entry, but I had the same essay question too ?

I talked about my time management skills and strong work ethic that allowed me to graduate high school a year early with my AA and how I balanced working 2 full time jobs while getting my undergraduate degree. I also emphasized the importance (to me) of having a good support system (friends and family).
