Vanderbilt Pre-Specialty Entry 2021

Published

I noticed there was not a thread created for Vanderbilt pre-specialty nursing for 2021, so I created one. Is anyone already preparing for this upcoming application cycle?

Hi @kcheck5 that's OK! by the way...you are prespecialty? and what's your specialty? I am AGPCNP.

I am actually a direct entry applicant! I was just following this thread and the other Vandy one.

Gave up my seat for prespecialty - AGPC today. Good luck to everyone on the waitlist!

Hi Nurse2be....can you say why you gave up your seat?

@queenrus I really liked Vanderbilt's faculty but I decided Yale's program is a better fit for me - smaller cohort, small college environment, and slightly more financial aid. Furthermore, I've already zoomed with my specialty director at Yale and have heard from current students and grads that she is awesome. One of my concerns about Vandy was the clinical locations that includes sites as far away as 150 miles from Nashville.

I think both Yale and Vandy are incredibly supportive programs, and students who advocate for themselves will get what they want. But for the above reasons, I found greater attraction to Yale.

I will say that I am a bit concerned about the MTA being within 150 miles. I am hoping that I will not be placed outside of Nashville (having young kids and all).

It sounds like you made a great decision with Yale. Sounds like a great opportunity. I'm sure wherever you are you will be successful.

Thank you @queenrus! I’m sure you will too!

When I attended Vandy’s virtual open house in the Fall, one of the faculty said once you are accepted you could email them with your clinical placement requests. I don’t remember which faculty member it was but I think it’s wise to jump on it early rather than waiting until they send out emails to students. My experience has taught me to reach out ASAP and tell them your specific goals/career vision so they can help you achieve them. Vandy’s faculty are awesome so I’m sure they’ll support you.

Has anyone who applied priority cohort and not heard back spoken to or heard anything from admissions this week?

Specializes in Transplant.

I didn't apply priority-I applied in January. I called today and was told that I should know in 1-2 weeks max. What specialty did you apply to?

Specializes in Clinical Research Manager.

Hope you all are well. Quick question! For those that were accepted on Feb 15 when is your deposit due? Thanks!

Mine’s due March 19, same time as when we had to accept the admission in the portal. It’s $500.
