Vanderbilt Pre-Specialty Entry 2021

Published

I noticed there was not a thread created for Vanderbilt pre-specialty nursing for 2021, so I created one. Is anyone already preparing for this upcoming application cycle?

I’m so glad I’m not alone in this. Accepted to PMHNP with 10k scholarship but I’m feeling anxious about committing now and paying for the program without any info about larger scholarships. Hoping we all hear back about full tuition scholarships soon! ❤️

Since it's 3 scholarships for 100 people, you have to operate under the assumption you won't get it, and be pleasantly surprised if it come through. There's also the 3 second-year scholarships that will be based on grades.

Glad to see so many fellow students of color accepted! Woohoo!

I also agree. This is especially true since lots of schools are now requiring their deposits. By waiting out and hoping to get the Vandy scholarship, people may pass up other scholarships/schools and end up with nothing. Vanderbilt is awesome, but I’d hope they understand that a lot of people don’t have the financial privilege  of going to a school just because they love it. Money is important.

Yes!! A lot of schools are requiring deposits. I got accepted the University of Miami and paid $1000 as a tuition deposit. Andddddd...I only had 2 weeks to decide if I wanted to accept. Vanderbilt and Emory give what seems to be about 4 weeks which is great. But yeah, I was surprised by the whole tuition deposit being a serious thing. Schools want to ensure that they know who is signing on.

I think at the end of the day, we have to do what makes sense for us personally and financially.

Hmm...OK....so I did some research on this issue. It's really not about what anyone from Vandy says but what's in "black and white". So, I checked this financial aid document that was sent to all of us as applicants at the end of January.

For those interested, take a look at the "FA Summary" document, go to page 2, under "internal scholarships"....it says "the student is considered for all internal scholarships once enrollment requirements are met"

To me, that means that the student would need to take all the necessary enrollment steps (get an offer of admission, pay the tuition deposit, get proof of immunization....pretty much do what they have asked as part of the enrollment process) in order to be considered.  That's my interpretation.

That is what threw me off, too. This what I was referencing in my email. But you’re probably correct: best to go off what is written.

I will say the website mentions that one of the scholarships will be received by March 25th.

It's actually between 140 and 150 students for prespecialty so about a 1 in 50 chance. Still a chance....but yes, I would be super happy if I am one of 50.

Yikes, yeah I don't think this should be a factor for me.

@PinkFreud yeah....the FA summary document may conflict with what you were told.

But if the first scholarship will be received by March 25th it won't be too long until we have found out.

Whew! What a thing this is.....the whole thing of how we will finance our education.

Yeah, I am operating on the possibility of having to do loans etc. If I receive it, then I would be incredibly lucky and grateful.

If you get it, please tell us.

Congratulations on you acceptance! Did you get your letter this morning? I'm still waiting for mine for PMHNP... ?

Hi everyone! Congratulations to all who were accepted! I created a facebook group for our Prespecialty cohort. If you would like to join, the link is below.  We have 39 group members at present, and I know there are approximately 100-120 more of you out there. People who are on the waitlist are also welcome to join!

I’m hoping so! The optimist in me just wants to believe they changed the scholarship process and the FA document hasn’t been updated to reflect it. Wishful thinking? ?

I applied to PMHNP and just got my decision back! I was not accepted but I’m hoping you’ll get good news! I am surprisingly relieved by this rejection which I never thought I would say but I was torn between a couple of other schools already and this makes my choice easier LOL
