I noticed there was not a thread created for Vanderbilt pre-specialty nursing for 2021, so I created one. Is anyone already preparing for this upcoming application cycle?

“Just to clarify something in the email: is it correct that we must actually be enrolled—not just accepted—into the program to be considered for the internal, full-tuition scholarships?”
This was the response:
“All admitted students are considered for one of three full tuition scholarships. Therefore, you will be considered. We will begin reviewing that information in the next couple of weeks.”
Perhaps I’m interpreting her response incorrectly, but just sharing what was told to me.
Maybe you aren't interpreting the information incorrectly. As per the email you received, it states they will begin reviewing that information in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully we will receive an answer soon (then again they may only inform the scholarship recipients). Good luck to all of us during that process.

@PinkFreud it's all becoming much more clear.
I'm really surprised they do it this way. Traditionally scholarships like that are used to poach the best students during this pre-enrollment process. It's still only 3 scholarships for a class of approximately 100, not sure how I should weigh this (I'm currently very split between here and Yale).
Also, I got a 7800 scholarship off the bat. I wonder if it means I'm low odds for full tuition, since they give up to 10k. Probably the people who got 10 had the strongest apps?

Yes, I was talking to my husband about this and I agree with you that traditionally, the school uses the scholarship (or full scholarship) to poach their best applicants. The rationale given to me was that Vandy wants to offer scholarships to those that really want to go to Vandy as opposed to those that choose Vandy just because they were offered a full scholarship. It's like it's a marriage....and the husband/wife says "love me for me and not for the money I can give you"

I am also very surprised. Honestly Vanderbilt’s mentality of “let’s not be transparent about the full tuition scholarships to students” makes me worried as a POC/low income individual. I got a full ride to undergrad and wouldn’t have been able to attend if otherwise.

I get that, and it sounds really nice at first. But the most disadvantaged/economically vulnerable students will be lost that way, because it's scary to commit to a $160,000 program thinking you got at most 10,000 off. You can absolutely love the school and still feel like you can't take that on. Especially if other good schools have offered you money. Many if not most will make their choice now based on who gave the most aid, so it seems like a dangerous strategy.

Yes my thoughts exactly. POC here too.

Glad to see so many fellow students of color accepted! Woohoo!
I also agree. This is especially true since lots of schools are now requiring their deposits. By waiting out and hoping to get the Vandy scholarship, people may pass up other scholarships/schools and end up with nothing. Vanderbilt is awesome, but I’d hope they understand that a lot of people don’t have the financial privilege of going to a school just because they love it. Money is important.

I’m so glad I’m not alone in this. Accepted to PMHNP with 10k scholarship but I’m feeling anxious about committing now and paying for the program without any info about larger scholarships. Hoping we all hear back about full tuition scholarships soon! ❤️

Hmm...OK....so I did some research on this issue. It's really not about what anyone from Vandy says but what's in "black and white". So, I checked this financial aid document that was sent to all of us as applicants at the end of January.
For those interested, take a look at the "FA Summary" document, go to page 2, under "internal scholarships"....it says "the student is considered for all internal scholarships once enrollment requirements are met"
To me, that means that the student would need to take all the necessary enrollment steps (get an offer of admission, pay the tuition deposit, get proof of immunization....pretty much do what they have asked as part of the enrollment process) in order to be considered. That's my interpretation.

Yes! Where else are you considering?
Per their website regarding internal scholarships......
MSN Student Scholarships Awarded by Vanderbilt School of Nursing
The School of Nursing offers one partial scholarship to all full time students (this was included in your admission letter) along with six full tuition scholarships. For new full time MSN students, consideration for a scholarship (partial tuition or full tuition) is based upon a holistic evaluation of the application including entering GPA, statement of purpose, responses to application essays and references. Of the six full tuition scholarships, three are awarded to new entering students (one pre-specialty, one BSN-Direct Entry and one minority student) and the other three are awarded to second year PreSpecialty entry/returning students.
They have a direct contact person and her contact information is on their financial aid page.
