I noticed there was not a thread created for Vanderbilt pre-specialty nursing for 2021, so I created one. Is anyone already preparing for this upcoming application cycle?

I am PMHNP pre specialty and I have been DYING waiting on this decision letter. I'm from DC but I'm here in Nashville this week house hunting. Got stuck in our hotel due to weather so I've just been constantly refreshing my email and application page

I could pass out right now lawwwddd! IDK if I can make it to Friday!

I already have a deposit down for a Accelerated BSN program that starts in May but I would be so grateful to go to Vanderbilt ? It is tricky and I’m not sure what to think. And you?

I am hopeful that the waitlist moves fast and I move with it. I realize I made a mistake with my application. When I first decided to apply I thought I wanted to do the dual NM/FNP degree, but changed my mind after I started the application. I couldn't figure out how to change it without starting the whole application over and by that time I had recommendation letters already uploaded etc. Upon seeing the midwifery director's video (did anyone else get a video from their dept about why they were waitlisted?) I realize my essays solely discussed my desire to pursue midwifery at Vanderbilt and said nothing about being an FNP which I no longer wanted to do. This could very well be the reason I was waitlisted. I thought I was a strong candidate. Goes to show the importance of being humble! Wannnnhhh wannnnhhh. Ah well, lets see what happens. I just graduated from nursing school with an ASN and havent even taken my NCLEX so there are options in the future.

Hi Jenny,
I hope you will get off the waitlist soon. I had a similar issue. Initially, I started my application for Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP, then after getting some more info, I decided that it wasn't the best fit for me....I was able to modify the application. Was your application already submitted when you realized you no longer wanted to do the dual program?

I'm in the same boat! I haven't paid the deposit for the direct entry program I was accepted to, but I'm strongly considering it. This waitlist business is super duper tricky; I guess it all comes down to how strongly we want to attend Vandy, and if we're willing to take that risk to wait. Best of luck to you however you choose to move forward!

Oh they definitely weren't kidding about how strongly they considered the essays! It both gave me confidence and scared me LOL. Likewise! I felt relief that I wasn't immediately rejected, but I definitely wonder now what I could've done to stand out amongst the other 190 priority decision applicants ?. Yes, there are always options! At the end of the day, it's all about considering the different ways to reach our goals. You have endless potential, no matter what option you decide to go with. This upcoming May will mark one year that I've finished undergrad, so I'm considering letting myself relax before jumping straight into more school ?. Here's to the waitlist hopefully moving this Spring!
I will have my ASN in may and I was accepted into PMHNP and found out on the 15th. I have a couple questions if anyone can answer... emailed vandy but they haven't responded yet.
I'm wondering does that make me a pre-specialty entry or direct entry? It says I will be doing my specialty year clinical outside of the Tennessee area, but doesn't say anything about the first year....I'm nervous that I will be expected to live in TN the first year and not in TN the next year? Anyone know what the first year program looks like for ASN entry? Is it possible for me to change to do my specialty year in the Tenessee area if I decide to relocate?
It says I received at $10,000 scholarship from the school of nursing. I saw that they have other scholarships listed on their financial aid page and I am wondering if those scholarships would have been included in the acceptance letter or decided at a different time? Did anyone else receive any other scholarship?
Congrats everyone!

Congratulations! As an ASN you will be admitted in the prespecialty year and then move on to the Specialty year.
You will be expected to live in TN the first year. If you selected OMTA then you are not expected to live in Tennessee but travel to the campus at predetermined times during that specialty year. Definitely reach out and see if they could change your clinical selection to MTA.
The other VUSN internal scholarships will be decided if you accept the admissions offer and pay the tuition deposit. I was told during an information session that the full-scholarships are decided after a panel has their complete list of students that have confirmed and paid their tuition deposit. That's decided several weeks or months after you have received your admissions decision.

This is great info! Would anyone be able to find a time frame for when they decide on the other scholarships not already on our admission letter?
I read in last year’s thread at least one person who received a full tuition scholarship found out with their admission letter. So it’s interesting to see that can be decided later on as well.
Did anyone receive information on loans in their admission letter? I am curious when our financial aid award summary comes out or if none is finalized until July?

Yes! The roommate portal on VUSN's website is available now if you have your VU email and multifactor set up. I've done some preliminary research on apartments near campus. Many complexes aren't leasing apartments yet because they allow their residents to provide 60 days notice if they want to renew. I came from a very competitive housing market for college where students would apply 1 year in advance for housing the next fall so I was surprised when the complexes were not giving rates for fall yet.
Just an FYI for anyone thinking of planning a trip to check out the housing situation it would be better to visit in May or June if you're looking to lease for July/Aug!
