  1. Hello, I'm a new grad RN and I am wanting to work in psych. I have 2 interviews coming up for a psych adolescent inpatient and an eating disorder treatment center. I have struggled in the past with mental health and eating disorders, and I actually was a patient at both of these places when I was a teenager (I am 31 now). I completed a year long intensive DBT program when I was 24 and have researched DBT extensively since then because I believe it can be so powerfully life changing and life saving. Being a new grad I don't have any professional experience (except volunteering at the crisis text line) but I was wondering... would it be helpful or harmful to mention in an interview that the reason why I am interested in this line of work is because of my past history and recovery, and that I know in depth about the many DBT and CBT skills because of that? I was going back and forth on whether or not I would mention this when I was looking on the website for the eating disorder clinic I am interviewing with and I see this quote on their "about" page: "Several staff members also have a personal experience with recovery, and their work often extends beyond caring for clients. Many are involved with prevention efforts that promote awareness of eating disorder causes and effects on families and our communities. We truly care. “We think like people with eating disorders think,” says our Executive Chairman and Founder, Dirk Miller, PhD, LP. “We are our clients. We know the changes people need to make to live through an eating disorder’s destructive patterns of thoughts and feelings. We know how to restore people to whole and happy lives.” It made me think that perhaps they would be more open to hiring those who are honest about their personal experience with recovery. What do you all think? Has anyone mentioned this in an interview and what was the outcome?
  2. I received my credit check and finalist email at 10am this morning. My efc is 0 and GPA 3.93. I'm going to be a psych NP student. Congrats everyone who got the finalist! Does anyone know if the finalist means that the credit was for sure acceptable? I get paranoid because my credit is bad, is there a chance they can deny me because of credit even after finalist email?
  3. Has anyone whose been accepted applied for the nurse corps scholarship? If so can you help me out? I just submitted my application but I was confused about the section where we had to put the dates of the program. The 2nd year includes Summer but they wouldn't let me put a date that ended in august so I put an extra 3rd year. Not sure if that was the right thing to do or I should have just done the 2 years and ended it earlier?
  4. I received info about how much loans I would likely qualify for on my acceptance letter right after they listed the amount of scholarship I recieved.
  5. I will have my ASN in may and I was accepted into PMHNP and found out on the 15th. I have a couple questions if anyone can answer... emailed vandy but they haven't responded yet. I'm wondering does that make me a pre-specialty entry or direct entry? It says I will be doing my specialty year clinical outside of the Tennessee area, but doesn't say anything about the first year....I'm nervous that I will be expected to live in TN the first year and not in TN the next year? Anyone know what the first year program looks like for ASN entry? Is it possible for me to change to do my specialty year in the Tenessee area if I decide to relocate? It says I received at $10,000 scholarship from the school of nursing. I saw that they have other scholarships listed on their financial aid page and I am wondering if those scholarships would have been included in the acceptance letter or decided at a different time? Did anyone else receive any other scholarship? Congrats everyone!
