Vanderbilt Pre-Specialty Applicants 2014

Published

Hey everyone! I couldn't find this thread anywhere so figured that I would start one for all of us who applied to Vanderbilt's Pre-Specialty Entry program (for non-RNs) this fall. I applied for the PMHNP specialty. What about you?! :)

From the time I have spent in Nashville I can say that it is a lot different than Memphis. In a good way! Nashville seems to have more of a mix of individuals....especially young professionals. There is a lot to do in Nashville and great networking opportunities. As far as living goes....downtown and the areas aroun d campus are quite pricy! (i lived in manhattan for a bit and i was still in sticker shock!) i like the brentwood area and like sarahbb said the belmont / 8th ave s areas are good too. I have a friend that lives in Hermitage. Nice area but a bit of a commute to vandy.

hhirsch: when did you submit your application for FNP? I submitted mine in mid-october with my last LOR being completed dec 25th. I'm still waiting =/

My understanding is that all of the specialty programs (2nd year for those entering as a non-nurse) are all in the modified block format: Distributed Course Delivery and Flexible Formats | Master of Science in Nursing | Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, except Nurse Midwifery. So you are only in class 3 - 4 times a semester for the concentrated block time and then all other course work in completed through online methods and then the clinicals are arranged either local (within the 2 or so hour range) and distant; Block Schedules | Vanderbilt University School of Nursing. They told me that you work with the clinical placement office & your faculty advisor to secure a site, but your participation in the process is critical. I say if you are uncertain of anything talk to the program director and/or current students.

I just called to ask for my status, it is still waiting a review! The lady told me to call back tomorrow.. The longer I wait, the more I want to attend Vanderbilt!! FYI, I'm FNP pre-specialty.

Is anyone else out there still waiting to hear from the pre-specialty pediatric primary care track??

I'm still waiting as well--AGPC. This is so agonizing! Vandy is all I can think about lol.

Time to bribe them with pizza and Starbucks so they can pull an all-nighter and just. get. it. done.

Amen jen4!

Ladybug14: did they seem like they would have decisions tomorrow? Thanks for the great info! Fingers crossed for both of us! :)

Jenn4-I completely agree! Your comment cracked me up haha.

Jenn4, I agree with everyone else. Great comment...gave me a nice laugh in this time of anxiety! Thank you!
