Hey everyone! I couldn't find this thread anywhere so figured that I would start one for all of us who applied to Vanderbilt's Pre-Specialty Entry program (for non-RNs) this fall. I applied for the PMHNP specialty. What about you?! :)
My understanding is that all of the specialty programs (2nd year for those entering as a non-nurse) are all in the modified block format: Distributed Course Delivery and Flexible Formats | Master of Science in Nursing | Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, except Nurse Midwifery. So you are only in class 3 - 4 times a semester for the concentrated block time and then all other course work in completed through online methods and then the clinicals are arranged either local (within the 2 or so hour range) and distant; Block Schedules | Vanderbilt University School of Nursing. They told me that you work with the clinical placement office & your faculty advisor to secure a site, but your participation in the process is critical. I say if you are uncertain of anything talk to the program director and/or current students.

From the time I have spent in Nashville I can say that it is a lot different than Memphis. In a good way! Nashville seems to have more of a mix of individuals....especially young professionals. There is a lot to do in Nashville and great networking opportunities. As far as living goes....downtown and the areas aroun d campus are quite pricy! (i lived in manhattan for a bit and i was still in sticker shock!) i like the brentwood area and like sarahbb said the belmont / 8th ave s areas are good too. I have a friend that lives in Hermitage. Nice area but a bit of a commute to vandy.
hhirsch: when did you submit your application for FNP? I submitted mine in mid-october with my last LOR being completed dec 25th. I'm still waiting =/
