Hey everyone! I couldn't find this thread anywhere so figured that I would start one for all of us who applied to Vanderbilt's Pre-Specialty Entry program (for non-RNs) this fall. I applied for the PMHNP specialty. What about you?! :)
I actually got the phone call yesterday but I missed it and they left a voicemail. It was from a TN number. And yes, they definitely stressed the waitlist!
Ok thank you! That makes me feel a bit better. Do you have your bsn or did you apply prespecialty? Maybe they let direct entry and prespecialty know at different times too...
Hello guys... I've been trollling the boards since November trying to get a better idea about how the application cycle is going. It's been pretty slow! Well, I finally decided to introduce myself and join the conversation. I wonder how many of us are lurking but never posting? IDK, haha
Anyways... I applied to the FNP program. Filled out my application in November and submitted it prior to the priority deadline. One of my recommenders didn't submit her letter until the 6th though, so I'm not sure if that means I missed the priority deadline or not.
Just because I know I'm always really interested in what other peoples scores were... I'll throw mine out there for conversation.
I got my bachelors of science in integrative health science from a small liberal arts college, and graduated with a 3.7 GPA (or 3.66, depending on how its calculated). As for pre-reqs, I got A's in A&P, Stats, Development, and my 11 credits of Bio/Chem... but I got B's in Nutrition and Micro.
I think I did pretty good on the GRE. I got a 162 (90th) in Verbal, 156 (74th) in Quantitative, and a 5.5 (96th) in Analytical Writing. I think my scores seem like they're right around the other posts I've seen on here. Hopefully they're competitive.
I did have a 6-month clinical internship with an FNP my last semester of undergrad, and I think my references were pretty strong. I opted to send in 3 letters from faculty, and 1 from an FNP who I used to work with prior to school. I'm non-trad, so I had some career experience beforehand.
Anyways, just thought I'd say hello and contribute what little I could to the discussion. I haven't seen many FNP applicants on here at all... I wonder if they're chatting somewhere else? Who knows. Either way it seems like PMHNP is the trending specialty this year.
I hadn't heard from them since I submitted my app, so I sent them an email confirming submission last month. Heard back from them Jan 16th that my file was with faculty for review, and then I got an automated message saying the same thing on the 24th. I haven't been contacted for an interview, but it looks like maybe FNP applicants aren't doing those this year, so I'm not stressing on that too bad.
My fingers are seriously starting to cramp though from keeping them crossed for three months now! I tried to apply last year in my junior year (there's an obscure rule somewhere that says you don't technically need a bachelors to be admitted, haha) but was told to re-apply when I finished my BS. VUSN is my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice... so I'm really excited to hear something! Time is seriously dragging right now.
I'm trying to keep myself busy, and I'm working on applications for a couple back-up schools... but at the end of the day this is the only program I really want to be in.
Best of luck to all of you!!!
