Vanderbilt Pre-Specialty Applicants 2014

Published

Hey everyone! I couldn't find this thread anywhere so figured that I would start one for all of us who applied to Vanderbilt's Pre-Specialty Entry program (for non-RNs) this fall. I applied for the PMHNP specialty. What about you?! :)

Specializes in Mental Health.

Hmmm didn't realize PMHNP is considered one of the larger specialties. I was hoping we would hear this week!

I was hoping for the same thing. I didn't realize that there were that many applicants this time either. It's looking like Feb 24th was an accurate prediction.

I applied to VUSN for PMHNP as well! While we are all waiting on our decisions I figure this poignant TED talk could help remind some of us to just remain calm. Brené Brown: The power of vulnerability | Video on TED.com

I'm definitely going to be a latecomer to this year's application cycle (I haven't even applied yet!). Is it even worth it to apply at this point? I'm primarily interested in pursuing the Adult-Gerontological Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP) track. Does anyone know how competitive this specialty track tends to be? My quantitative GRE score is pretty low, so I have a feeling that's one detractor that will prohibit me from being accepted.

Also, I hate to barrage you guys with so many questions, but does anyone know if the AG-ACNP track is one for which clinicals can be completed outside of TN? Or do clinicals have to be completed in/near Nashville?

Thanks...

I, too applied to the AG-ACNP program. If you already have a BSN then you can do the program on-line with clinicals in your home town. I think the program is pretty competitive but also has a phenomenal reputation. Good luck.

Actually, I don't have a BSN (I have a BS degree in a non-nursing field). Do you know if the AG-ACNP track tends to be just as competitive as the FNP track?

The pre-specialty year, at the very least, has to be completed in Nashville.

I have not received any further information since my interview (aside from financial aid and the general "your application is under review") -- I applied to CNM/FNP and am curious if they call everyone? I am really excited to hear back -- this wait is awful!!

Some people received calls this year. Not sure if everyone will. Looking through last year's thread, people received letters in the mail. I hope that they call or at least email for PMHNP because with all the storms we've been having in my area, I'm a bit nervous about the post

I was thinking the same thing. For sure it will be via snail mail as far as the admissions person knew. This weather is making me antsy. One more week down though.

Hi All! Just found this thread. So glad to find others to commiserate with! [: I applied to the PNP specialty. I have yet to receive the financial aid packet... has everyone else already gotten it?

Yes...received it via e-mail a couple of weeks ago. You might want to give them a call or drop them an e-mail. Good Luck!!
