Vanderbilt MSN 2020

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Updated:   Published

I just attended Vanderbilt's fall open house for the 2020 year and I'm really excited to be applying! I'm hoping to connect with other Vandey applicants so we can offer support and info along this process. I am applying to the post BSN dual CNM/ FNP program.

Specializes in Neuro.

I’m finishing up my first semester. I’m studying for finals (or should be lol) today! This has by far been the hardest year of my life, and I don’t know where I’d be without Vanderbilt. My big brother passed away in October. The faculty and my classmates have been amazing, and having school to focus on during this has helped me to not allow myself to sit in my depression.
I can honestly say that the faculty CARE about the students. They’re passionate about teaching us, and we are not just numbers or faces in the crowd. was the best decision I’ve ever made.

Just know that it’s a lot of work, but if I can do it while working full time, with two kids, and with all of the other baggage this semester has brought... you guys will all be successful.

What do you think of Vanderbilt?

It's one of the best University's for my major. Number 2 in the U.S. for the psychiatric nurse practitioner program, so that's why I applied. I live in SC, so the location is great also. It was my first and only choice, so I applied. Now waiting patiently for the decision. ?

Having attended an open house, I was really impressed with Vanderbilt and the way they organize their varied programs. They have created multiple routes for students to enter a nursing profession depending on where they are in the process (pre-BSN, masters, etc) and are one of the few programs who offer a dual FNP/CNM Certification program which is what I will need to achieve my professional goals. The directors of the programs took the time to answer our questions and I got to have my questions specific to my professional goals addressed while considering whether Vanderbilt was a good fit for me.

They seem committed to reducing inherent bias in the admission process and seem to be constantly evaluating their themselves and truly taking feedback from students and applicants in order to improve their program, which is probably why they are ranked highly among the specialties in which I’m interested. Beyond ranking, the faculty, students, and campus were incredibly welcoming, encouraging, and informative. February cannot come soon enough!

Hello everyone, I also applied for the FNP program before the priority deadline. I am so anxious since is my 1st choice. Like many of you I am still waiting so If anyone receives an acceptance letter please post to let me/ us know. Thank you.

Hey everyone! I was wondering if people knew of anyone who was accepted from a non nursing background with pre reqs still left? I have 3 left and will have one done by Jan. However, I saw one person on a post say that they were waitlisted and it seemed like it was because they had a pre req left. I'm already anxious because of my lower GPA. I just wanna prove my worth to them.

Wow! Hello everyone!

I came to start a thread & I'm so glad one has already been initiated. I'm applying for PMHNP with a BSN for 2020. I recently applied for early decision ?. Any other PMHNP applicant's?

Hey Tris29150,

You seem to have some inside knowledge on the priority deadline piece of the application. I submitted my application mid November (Was waiting on a rec letter). What have they told you about people that submit after the priority deadline?

They did tell me that they start the second round of reviews after the start of the year, so I'm assuming they at least consider applicants after the Nov 1 deadline.

Thank you!

Hey. I didn't make it to the open house, but another young lady mentioned that at the open house they mentioned possibly not doing a second round due to an expected increase in applicants due to no longer requiring the GRE. So there's a possibility they won't review anymore after the priority deadline.

Yes, as I have said previously, they made clear at the open house that they highly encourage submitting the application by the November 1st deadline because it will be rare that they consider the applicant for acceptance if they are not considered in the priority deadline group. They expect to have an increase in applicants because of the GRE requirement removal and the spots they offer will go first to the applicants who met the priority deadline. They said, it's not impossible to be considered if you applied after the priority deadline, but that it will be a rare occurrence to be reviewed and reiterated the importance of submitting by the priority deadline.

Hello all! Did anyone else get the email this morning about Vanderbilt not conducting interviews or the REDCap webinar this year for the NM and NM/FNP applicants? They included an informational webinar which I think would answer a lot of questions that have come up on here.

I didn’t receive that.... maybe because I’m applying for psych specialty?

Probably so. It was specifically from the midwifery department faculty about that program.
