Hi! I'm starting a thread for Vanderbilt MSN Fall 2019. Anyone else applying/re-applying too? Please comment!
Congrats to everyone accepted! I completed the pre-specialty program. It was challenging, but certainty manageable. You will find out pretty quickly which classes require more attention than others and which reading assignments you can skip if you’re low on time. I feel like they spend so much time telling you that you’ll be so busy you essentially won’t have a life and I didn’t find that to be true. (Although hearing that did forced me to adopt really good study habits up front out of fear- and that was helpful). The pre-specialty year is busy because it covers so much content but realizing how much you have learned at the end makes it all worth it!
Overall, I do think it was a great program and I am so happy that I chose it. BUT I will admit that it often felt very unorganized which frustrated a lot of students. Best advice is to find someone who has been through the program (and ideally went into your specialty program) to go to with questions. That was seriously a lifesaver for me! GOOD LUCK!
Had my interview today for PMHNP. Felt I was doing great. Then I stumbled on one question at the end and it ended shortly after. Only 14 minutes. I did tie in a lot of question into other possible questions though which might have made it shorter. I feel lucky to at least get an interview. But still down about it.
41 minutes ago, ringelm said:I asked for feedback since I was rejected. I could not believe I had "poor understanding of APRN roles". So, I named 4 roles: provider, educator(including to educate students, not only patients), manager and administrator. Where did I go wrong?
I think what they wanted was more of what an actual Aprn does. The other stuff does apply but i probably would have just focused on the provider role and went into depth with that because that’s the part the the program will focus on. Manager and administration isn’t something you’ll really be doing unless you choose too.
my advice would be for next time is focusing on the fact that you understand that you will be diagnosing patients and maintaining medications and such.

Hi everyone. I'm just now planning to apply to the pediatric primary care program as I noticed that they accept people on a rolling basis however it looks like A LOT of people have already applied and been accepted. I'm transferring from another MSN program. Just seeing if anyone has recently applied after Nov 1. Not sure what my chances are of applying this late but I'm going to try and see if I can get in.
