Hi! I'm starting a thread for Fall 2019. Anyone else applying/re-applying too? Please comment!

I think what they wanted was more of what an actual Aprn does. The other stuff does apply but i probably would have just focused on the provider role and went into depth with that because that’s the part the the program will focus on. Manager and administration isn’t something you’ll really be doing unless you choose too.

I wrote about what an ARNP actually does on a day to day basis. My impression was they are looking for straight forward answers to their questions in the interview and application. I'm speculating without having reading @ringelm application. I volunteered at a military medicine clinic and I wrote about what I witnessed nurse practitioners doing.

Look at 's website ( https://nursing.vanderbilt.edu/msn/whatisapn.php ). Their website tells you exactly what they train students to do.

my advice would be for next time is focusing on the fact that you understand that you will be diagnosing patients and maintaining medications and such.

I had no idea I had to go more over “ provider” more. I thought going over one role will show them “ poor understanding “ Manager role is to manage your patient consultations, collaborate with other specialists to manage comorbidities. Administrator role is participate if needed in appointment scheduling, rehab and other facilities placement etc .

Yeah i completely get where you’re coming from. But the reason i would avoid doing that is because nursing and advanced practice nursing are so different so schools want to make sure you know what you’re getting into. Don’t read so much into it.

I know it's hard but I decided to let it go. I didn't even bother to ask them what my perceived deficits were. You can be an PMHNP without Vanderbilt. Go get it!

I agree you’re going to be an amazing PMHNP one day so don’t give up on your dreams. One rejection just means the opening of other opportunities for you.

Thank you guys, for the nice words. It is not over yet, since I have not heard from the other school....

Hi everyone! I will be applying next year for PreSpecialty, and I have some questions... if anyone could help me out, I would really appreciate it! I am curious if you guys think visits make a difference? I live far away and most likely would have to fly. I would make the trip if others feel like it helped them!

Any other tips for applying or anything else would be greatly appreciated :)

I didn't go in person. I am all the way in California and couldn't do it. I even applied before passing the NClex. I found out the same day that I got accepted that I have passed the NClex as well.

I can say I put a lot of effort in answering the questions in the application. In the interview I tried to talk as much as I could without going too long.

I had a strong GPA. Not sure what else to tell you. Good luck!

Hey! does anyone know if I can switch specialties? I'm already accepted into the PNP-PC but I meant to apply to the AC program. Kind of messed up.

If you are applying prespecialty, you cannot do peds acute care, they require you to have RN experience. If you’re applying with RN experience then you can try to switch specialties, but it’s pretty hard as someone needs to switch out of the acute care specialty for there to be a spot for you. And even if someone drops out of AC, it’s not a guarantee that they’ll let you in.

Yeah if you’re direct entry than I’m pretty sure you’re out of luck. But if your prespeciality than it is possible to change

You can’t do PNP-AC as prespecialty. It requires 1 year experience in a critical care setting or 2 years in acute care.
