Vanderbilt MSN 2019

Published

Hi! I'm starting a thread for Vanderbilt MSN Fall 2019. Anyone else applying/re-applying too? Please comment!

I honestly don't think you need to attend the open house at the beginning of March as a prospective student. It looks like an informational session for potential applicants and they just threw in a small session for admitted students because people would show up and tour the school after they were already admitted to programs. Definitely check out campus and Nashville if you are considering moving to the area. It's a very fun and dynamic place to live (lived here 2009-2013 and 2017-present). The campus is gorgeous and there are definitely housing options (they are $$ however). I wouldn't drop hundreds of dollars or multiple hours of commuting for a one-hour session with current students personally...just my two cents ?

This sucks. Most outside scholarship deadlines are already over and you can’t really apply for them without knowing what college you’ve been accepted to.

actually? I haven't even bothered looking yet until I figure everything out. ugh. Two of my other programs haven't sent out decisions yet either.

Visiting in-person is important (at least to me) when deciding to move cross-country but remember that the open house is not the only opportunity to get a feel for the school and city! I am sure they would allow students who want to visit but can't make the open house to schedule individual visits on other dates (Hopkins did this for me).

I met with admissions & toured the {new} Vandy SON around Thanksgiving. I was able to meet with the director of admissions and program coordinators and ask whatever questions I had/them to look over my application in person. I suggest just emailing them to set something up!

Is there another open house date?

Yes! I've missed a couple. Did you look into the Nurse Corps? HRSA offers a variety of options to pay for school. I was a Nurse Corps recipient for my BSN in 2015. Has it's pros and cons. Check it out and the other similar programs.

I'm sorry you guys still haven't found out. I just wanted to let everyone know that the open house is NOT intended for accepted students. If you want to come and see campus/Nashville I could see coming if it is inconvenient to come, I would suggest not wasting time/energy/money on open house. Everything you need to know will be available online in a "admitted student" tab. Good Luck! Remember your coping skills for stress management. This week is Midterms so I am sure its busy for the staff also.

For Vandy is online program, do you feel you are not getting to know the professors or the professors wont know you well? Do you think you will be able to get recommendations after the program?

We still go to campus for "blocks" three weeks every semester. So you can get to know staff if you choose. The pre speciality students know the professors the best because they had their RN classes with them but they are very approachable and nice and easy to converse with during breaks/after class/via email. I like the hybrid format

Even less if you applied for part time. They told me 4-5x per year. Woot woot!

Hi! I was going to apply to Nurse Corps. Do you mind sharing some of the cons? Thank you!

Hi I am late to the thread but does anyone know how much the program costs, like a rough estimate if you are already an RN? All I’ve found is the estimation of 3 semesters for pre-specialty or just how much the credits cost but I was wondering if maybe any current students had any insight to this? Thanks!

Yeah it’s about 67,500 dollars.
