  1. I never got an email to check my portal. I just went into my portal and into my application and it had a status update that I opened. Just FYI. I still have not gotten any emails from them. The letter is legit and says my name and whatnot but I only knew to check the portal because of allnurses ?
  2. I’m in for PNP-AC!!!!
  3. I have a good feeling but I guess they technically have until Wednesday (end of the month)
  4. I honestly don't think you need to attend the open house at the beginning of March as a prospective student. It looks like an informational session for potential applicants and they just threw in a small session for admitted students because people would show up and tour the school after they were already admitted to programs. Definitely check out campus and Nashville if you are considering moving to the area. It's a very fun and dynamic place to live (lived here 2009-2013 and 2017-present). The campus is gorgeous and there are definitely housing options (they are $$ however). I wouldn't drop hundreds of dollars or multiple hours of commuting for a one-hour session with current students personally...just my two cents ?
  5. Congratulations! Basically you will come to Cook (or do Skype if you cannot come) and there will be a schedule for the day including a tour and your scheduled interview time. Your file including your resume and essay will be given to three interviewers (one manager, one educator, and one current nurse resident) who will ask you questions and go through a case study. The case study is moderately difficult. Be sure to review pediatric illnesses and developmentally appropriate care. Be sure to also be clear about why you chose the track and why you chose Cook Children's!
  6. I just say that I don't take care of big people - not even big babies. [emoji12]. ---peds nurse
  7. As stated in other replies, the quantiferon gold is historically very very expensive. I had a positive PPD and a negative chest X-Ray. I was told to do the anti-tb regimen (about 6 months of liver and kidney toxic drugs) because I had latent TB. I asked my employer about the blood test before I would agree to treatment because I was not convinced I even had latent TB. They denied my request but my PCP agreed. My quantiferon gold was negative. Now I just answer the TB screening questionnaire every year and that's it. No PPD (because I had a reaction) and no chest X-ray because the blood test showed that I don't have even latent tb that needs to be monitored.
  8. Got my first job offer in March of 2015 (started applying in January of 2015). Graduated and took the nclex in May of 2015, started working in July of 2015. Residencies are more apt to hire you early, contingent on passing boards. Most of my classmates had solid job offers in writing a month before graduation.
  9. The interviewers are different in the morning and afternoon. Interviewers do 4 hour blocks either 8-12 or 12-4. Again, I'm sorry for your experience and that it was not representative of Cook as a whole. All the best in your job search.
  10. I'm so sorry you all had that experience. I'm a current resident and it is one of the most positive and supportive places I have ever been. I apologize for any coldness and I wish you all the best going forward.
  11. They are waiting for feedback from those that were extended offers to see if there are still available spots. I don't believe they are offering positions in the October cohort. It is usually a separate application/interview process for each cohort.
  12. I think that it depends on the content of the blogging you wish to do. If you are wanting to engage other colleagues in intellectual discussion and talk about current events with a clear statement that you are not representing your hospital of employment or acting on their behalf then I'm sure attaching your name would be a great choice. If you think you may need to vent or share some stories that don't violate HIPAA (but may if someone knew what facility you worked at) then I would caution you. I have an anonymous blog because I use humor to cope with some of the hard parts of nursing and I would never want anyone to be offended or think I was a bad nurse or that my facility felt the same way. It also allows me to bond with other nurses and point out the humor and the frustrating parts of nursing without feeling like I am representing anyone else but myself. I also give advice and it is obvious it is coming from me and not my place of employment.
  13. I believe it will be Friday. So hold on just a couple more days!!!
  14. Answers to questions! The PICU has 33 beds. They took about 16 critical care, 18 med-surg, and 4 peri-op in the last cohort. Best of luck you guys! I am currently in phase II of the residency and was placed in the PICU. Let me know if you have any other questions!!
  15. Fentanyl and Precedex usually. The occasional Vecuronium drip for sedation nightmares.
