Vanderbilt MSN 2016

Published

I haven't seen a thread yet for 2016 hopefuls, so I thought I'd start one. After much research and changing my mind back and forth, I decided to go for the Vanderbilt MSN. I would be direct entry as I already have my BSN. I finally decided on Pediatric Primary Care. I'm just worried about getting a job after graduation as I'm not really seeing much in the way of openings in the Nashville area--which is where I live.

I applied for that program as well and received the same email! Good luck!

I"m grateful that we could all be considered for priority even though some of our materials weren't received by the deadline. I wonder if this has been the case in the past. In any case, I've been trying to mentally prepare myself for lots of waiting and hoping in the next few months, lol. What other schools, if any, are you guys applying to?

Hi everyone,

I applied to the CNM/FNP program on 10/31. I also got the e-mail saying I was included in the first cohort. I'm coming in with 3 years combined of med/surg and labor and delivery experience and a BSN in nursing. This was the only school I applied to because I didn't find any other combined programs that I really wanted to apply to at this point. We'll see if I regret not trying to get into a CNM only program in a few months but so far I've got a back up plan I'm pretty happy with.

What are your plans for financing your graduate education? I've heard Vanderbilt's financial packages are normally pretty good so I'm hoping that that is actually the case.

Good luck to everyone and Happy Waiting,

Veronica

Hey Audrey, I applied for the PMHNP program as well and received that same email that my application was in the first cohort. I'm hopeful. I just realized that for this specialty an interview is required. I hope all goes well for u!

Hello I wanted to respond because I also have my MSW and recently applied to the PMHNP program. My thoughts are that if you know for sure that you want to be an NP then I would apply there instead. The only reason I would get the MSW is if it would not be of additional expense to you. The knowledge you would gain from the MSW will certainly help you if you decide to go that route. When I got my MSW I didnt know that there was a such thing as a psych np and had not considered nursing. Hindsight being 20/20 I wish i had done things differently. Now I am in my 30s pursuing a different career.

I sent my application in on September 30th for neonatal nurse practitioner program. They received all my information that was needed, but I never got an email like everyone else so this makes me nervous!

I would call admissions first thing Monday and ask them about the status of your application!

Anyone know through past threads, or personnel experience what kind of questions they ask for the interview? Appreciate any feedback.

Looking through past threads, I saw that people that were invited to interview said it's a good idea to go over your responses to the survey questions. Just like in your personal statement and survey questions, I guess it'd be a good idea to communicate your passion for your chosen specialty to the best of your ability. Be familiar with your strengths, weaknesses, and how you overcame a recent challenge. Of course, one can never be prepared enough for an interview, lol. I always feel like one or two questions trip you up no matter how long or hard you've prepared.

I also spoke to a current prespecialty midwifery student, and she said that when she had her interview, she was asked questions specific to her resume and application, which she felt made it less like an interview and more like a conversation. She had her interview over the phone, and it was really informal. She also mentioned that Vanderbilt was pretty fast about getting back to applicants. The application was due in October last year, she had her interview in November, and she received her acceptance in December. I hope the timeline this year is somewhat similar!

Hey there friends,

Considering it's almost December, I was curious if anyone has heard anything about interviews. I haven't yet. I've applied Prespecialty entry as a CNM student. It's still unclear to me if CNM's definitely have interviews. From looking at previous forums, it seems to me that in the past an individual who applied for a dual CNM/FNP position got interviewed but that the interview may have only been for the FNP part. I wish I had more insight on the matter.

A little about myself: My background was in anthropology. My GRE scores are fairly average. Verbal: 155 Quantitative: 149 Analytical Writing: 4.5 I finished my master's degree in anthropology this May, and don't have any job experience in health care. I'm currently volunteering at two different health care facilities, one which is an overall hospital and the other a small women's health clinic. It's interesting to see the diversity among different facilities!

I only applied to Vanderbilt so I'm slowly going nuts over here waiting in anticipation. EEK. I hope they do let us know sooner than later. Best of luck, fellow applicants. I wish you all well! :)

has anyone applied to FNP and heard back anything yet?
