Vanderbilt MSN 2016

Published

I haven't seen a thread yet for 2016 hopefuls, so I thought I'd start one. After much research and changing my mind back and forth, I decided to go for the Vanderbilt MSN. I would be direct entry as I already have my BSN. I finally decided on Pediatric Primary Care. I'm just worried about getting a job after graduation as I'm not really seeing much in the way of openings in the Nashville area--which is where I live.

Just submitted my application for the nurse-midwifery program - fingers crossed! I also have a non-nursing bachelor's (human biology). Anyone else out there applying for the midwifery program? I know that the university hospital is pretty progressive when it comes to maternity care, but does anyone know what Nashville and Tennessee are like in general in terms of maternity practices? Are midwives prevalent and sought-after?

Also, does anyone know when final decisions are made?

I'm applying to midwifery, too, with a Bachelors in biology. I think last year people were getting acceptances around February, though from past forums I've been skimming through, a few decisions were made earlier (Dec. & Jan.).

It said in the instructions online that you must submit official transcripts, so I did that. The official versions now show up in addition to the ones I scanned. I guess they don't make that clear on the application

Did everyone send in official transcripts? I thought we only had to upload a copy of our transcript but then when I turned in my application it said I was missing the official transcript. So I panicked and sent an official copy electronically today. Did anyone else have this issue?

kmid11, I also ran into the same issue as you did. Although I submitted my application before the priority deadline, I realized too late that official transcripts had to be mailed in. In any case, I requested them from my schools, so they should be arriving on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week. I'm trying not to be bummed out about missing that bit of information!

I did this too. Submitted my application on Oct. 30th, and only realized Oct 29th that they wanted official transcripts at the time of submission. Apparently only the school of nursing requires that - the rest of Vanderbilt doesn't ask for official transcripts until an offer of admission has been made. That confused me at first - glad I caught it though. I had to ask my schools to overnight mail my transcripts to be there Monday morning!

adding documents after your app has been submitted, does that matter in terms of the priority deadline? i got my app in before the priority deadline, but ive been submitting "additional documents" after the fact.. do you think that will affect anything?

It was my understanding (don't quote me) that all application materials had to meet the Nov 1 deadline. I could very well be wrong, though. I don't think your application can be reviewed until all of your materials are complete. I think they'll go through all of the completed applications that met the deadline first, and then go through the other applications after that. Just my thoughts lol.

The week after the priority deadline, I spoke with someone in admissions about my late transcripts, and she told me not to worry because she'd been told that there'd be some "wiggle room" regarding the deadline. I don't know what that means, but it sounds like good news for some of us that had some of our materials in a little after the deadline. Hang in there all!

Sent in my application a week prior to the deadline. Just wanted to say hi to everyone else who applied and wanted to start following this thread for any news :D

Direct entry as a immunology major here! I applied to the family nurse practitioner!

Hi everyone!I had a few questions about Vanderbilt's programs and just wanted to see if anyone can give me some insight. I'm currently a non-traditional junior in my undergrad, majoring in social work, while also taking science pre-reqs at the same time. I'm wanting to eventually apply to VU's PMHNP program as a non-nursing entry. I'm interested in working in mental health, hence why I'm majoring in social work, and why I'm interested in being a PMHNP. I'm wondering if I should apply to the program the fall of my senior year, or if I should wait until after I graduate with my BSW. I have the opportunity to get my masters in social work in 1 year after graduation. Do you think it would be better for me to wait and go for the MSW, and then apply? Also, other than GPA and GRE scores, what other factors do they use to determine acceptance to the programs? Thank you all for any info! :)

Hi Everyone...

I applied also to the direct entry fnp program. I am in an Accelerated BSN and graduating in May. Not terribly excited about the next couple of months of waiting. Always a bit anxious till you hear. I have applied to a few other schools as well but Vandy is my secret favorite ;) Wishing you all the very best.

Hey, at the open house, did they talk about the number of application they typically receive and how many they will accept for FNP?

Hello,

I thought I would start following this thread. I applied to the post-master's certificate PMHNP program. I submitted my application just before the November 1st deadline, but my transcripts did not all arrive until November 10th. The good news is today I received an email that my application is being reviewed with the first cohort of applicants. I am anxious to find out about an admission decision!

I applied to the PMHNP specialty, but I too am interested in knowing my chances of being admitted!

Hello,

I submitted my application to the PreSpecialty program in FNM (FNP/CNM) on 11/1 and got confirmation that my application was complete on 11/2. That confirmation email stated that they anticipate the first decisions to go out in early January and then continue on a rolling basis until all spots are filled. Yesterday (11/20) I got confirmation that my application was sent to the faculty committee as part of the first cohort of applications to be reviewed, but that email stated that admissions decisions are expected by 2/15.

Good luck everyone!
