I haven't seen a thread yet for 2016 hopefuls, so I thought I'd start one. After much research and changing my mind back and forth, I decided to go for the Vanderbilt MSN. I would be direct entry as I already have my BSN. I finally decided on Pediatric Primary Care. I'm just worried about getting a job after graduation as I'm not really seeing much in the way of openings in the Nashville area--which is where I live.
I can't speak for rural areas of TN, but as far as CNMs, there are not a ton of them in the Nashville area. I think there is a community of CPMs (certified professional midwives who are "direct entry", not RNs). I do think the CNM trend might be changing a bit. There is one practice associated with Vanderbilt and recently a new "boutique" style midwife practice opened in Nashville...kind of fancy midwifery :)

Hey everyone!
Applying for the PMHNP program with my BSN in nursing, 3.86 GPA, average GRE, 2 years experience as a nurse tech in everything ranging from Geropsych to ICU to Ortho, currently in an ED clinical preceptorship at one of the busier units in my area, applied by the November 1st deadline.
Not too confident that I'll get in, but it's always worth a shot! Best of luck to everyone, I'll be praying for you all!
Hey Brael1n!
Good to have someone in the area who can answer some questions!
What's the job market like down there? I've heard it can be tough on new grads and less experienced nurses. Any recommendations on where to look for work? (I'm a long shot to get into the program, but still curious)
Thank you! Your expertise and willingness to answer questions is greatly appreciated!

Just submitted my application for the nurse-midwifery program - fingers crossed! I also have a non-nursing bachelor's (human biology). Anyone else out there applying for the midwifery program? I know that the university hospital is pretty progressive when it comes to maternity care, but does anyone know what Nashville and Tennessee are like in general in terms of maternity practices? Are midwives prevalent and sought-after?
Also, does anyone know when final decisions are made?
