Vanderbilt MSN 2016

Published

I haven't seen a thread yet for 2016 hopefuls, so I thought I'd start one. After much research and changing my mind back and forth, I decided to go for the Vanderbilt MSN. I would be direct entry as I already have my BSN. I finally decided on Pediatric Primary Care. I'm just worried about getting a job after graduation as I'm not really seeing much in the way of openings in the Nashville area--which is where I live.

I am also applying for next fall in the psych and mental health speciality!! very nervous, I have one more pre req and my gpa is ok and gre scores are ok but I have some good volunteering and shadowing so I'm hoping that will help. is there really a guaranteed interview for people who apply before november 1? good luck everyone! i hope we all get to meet!!

Hi everyone! I wasn't able to make it to the open house. I will be applying for the Pediatric Primary Care NP entry level program. I am hoping we hear back in December because some of the other schools I applied for actually begin in January. Did by any chance they mention when they would let people know by if they apply before the priority deadline? Any information about the open house would be helpful :)

Thanks!

Does anyone know anything about scholarships? I know they have merit based scholarships but do we have to apply for these separately or do they just give them out based off of your application?

I did not go to the open house either. My GRE score needs a little work, so I am going to wait another year to apply. Vanderbilt does have scholarships and I believe you apply for them when you fill out your financial aid package. All full-time students get a small scholarship. I believe last year it was $3000-4000. There are others that are need based or merit based as well.

Hi everyone! First post on allnurses. I am applying to the Vanderbilt Direct Entry FNP program. I went to the Vanderbilt MSN open house and I'm able to answer a few questions I saw in previous posts. kmid11 is right in saying that all full time students get a scholarship. It will be between $3000 and $9000 per year. This amount is determined using your GRE scores and GPA. I asked which is weighted more heavily and the lady who handles financial aid said the GPA is more of a factor. They give these scholarships based on your application, no need to apply for them. There are also 3 full tuition scholarships awarded per year (including one to a minority) but you better have a 4.0 and an amazing GRE score or they won't even consider you. Those you need to write an essay for as well.

In response to knh1006's question, they told us that priority applicants wouldn't hear back until late January, early February. :/

Did they say what past GRE scores for the full rides were? Just curious!

They didn't say but I imagine a combined score of 325-330+, just a guess!

I am currently a nursing student at Ohio State. I am applying to the Direct Entry FNP program, but yesterday in class my professor was talking about how it's going to become a requirement for NPs to get their DNP rather than just their masters. I am concerned that only getting my masters right now will hurt me in the long run. Does anyone know anything else about this, or have opinions on the issue?

The GRE score is around 307 when I talked to them earlier this year

kmid11-

A representative from admissions addressed this concern at the October open house. She stated that any NP who has a master's degree will be grandfathered in, so they won't lose the ability to practice, have their title revoked, or have to fulfill additional educational requirements. She also stated that this potential change is not in the near future and VUSN stays up to date on any changes to this policy and will make adjustments when/if that time comes. She mentioned it likely won't occur before 2020.

Thank you so much!

Does anyone know how flexible they are on GRE? My verbal and analytical writing were significantly above the minimum, but my quantitative was just slightly below and I'm a little worried about that.
