Vanderbilt MSN 2015

Published

Hello,

I am applying for the MSN program in '15, due in December. I was wondering if anyone knew how much weight the GRE holds, in regards to being competitive? I am a little nervous about my scores not being competitive. Any advice will help!

Best regards,

On this thread, I believe there have only been two from PMHNP that have heard back, those two were accepted. The rest of us are still waiting.

And no one that I know of has been turned down by the school. That fact is what makes me extra uneasy. I spent ages on my personal statements and not nearly as much time on the supplemental questions...that paired with the length of time my application has been sitting with admissions makes me preeeeeeeeetty sure I didn't get in.

Has anyone been contacted by PMHNP for an interview? It's odd they'd kind of passively indicate they're doing them...but also concretely tell others they won't be doing interviews. I guess it's all pretty confusing at this point.

I just called again (this is my third time, eek!) and was told again that psych is not doing interviews this year.

Does anyone know if there will be an admitted students day? Did I miss something in the acceptance letters? I know there's an open house for prospective students, but I was really hoping to go to something for admitted students (Pre-Specialty).

I didn't see anything like that in the acceptance letter either. All I know about is the orientation in mid August.

I applied to PMHNP pre-specialty program a couple years ago and didn't get in. They interviewed me and then my application was sent to a special committee for review. I think my gre scores were not as competitive and my undergrad gpa was about a 3.3, with my major gpa at 3.6. My prerequisites were about a 3.7.

I re-applied this year and am crossing my fingers. Since then I took the opportunity to study psychology at the graduate level. I will be graduating with my master's in clinical psychology and will be licensed as a psychologist this May, and am hoping this helps. My master's gpa was also much more competitive at a 3.95.

It it is very difficult waiting, but I know all of us have tried our best. This program is one of the best! Good luck to all of you. I'm sure we will find out very soon.

I will definitely let you know if I hear back.

No worries, when I spoke to them about my FNP app, they said there are many apps that haven't even been reviewed yet, simply due to the volume they received this year. They said don't panic if you haven't heard yet, as some simply got to the review committee earlier than others. They didn't sort them based on who had the best application or anything, due to the "rolling" admissions process. They work daily on them by simply taking the app, reviewing it, and say yes or no. She made sure to say to not panic though, and no response doesn't mean you are not in yet.

Whoaaa! I'd be shocked if you didn't get in! Kudos for having the drive to study psych in a separate program in the meantime. I'm actually surprised you haven't already heard good news from them. It's so hard to understand what these admissions committees are looking for!

Thank you so much for your very kind comments snoozyd and dcbw. :) I am wishing you both the best in your application process too. It is such a tedious process. I wish they gave us a more concrete date we will be notified.

I think this forum is such a great form of support! I hope all of us end up in the class together. All of you sound like very bright and passionate about the field.

Unless you wrote in your application that you have a collection of crushed cat skulls and disarticulated mammal skeletons from road kill that you field dress yourself or that you like pushing nuns into traffic, I'm sure you'll be fine :).

Wait, so you won't get in if you do those things?

Emory found out yesterday, and I was accepted for their FNP program. I applied there a whole month after Vandy. Wish I knew something from Vandy now. I wanna know all my options!
