Vanderbilt 2021 Direct Entry

Published

Hey guys!

Vandy's application opens tomorrow! I am so anxious to start the application. There is a Pre-Specialty thread already started so I want to start this one for direct entry. Post questions, comments, experiences, and anything else. Good luck everyone! You've got this!

Hi Khaleesi. You received your decision the same day you submitted the app? I think from information sessions that I have attended they have said that 3.8 GPA is their average. But I have seen on this forum individuals having much lower GPAs. I am surprised you received an answer that quickly.

Any other schools you have applied to? Don't let it get you down at all. If you think GPA is the issue, I think taking some grad level courses will help.

I received the decision within the same week. I applied to 3 other schools and I'm hoping I would get accepted with at least 1 school. How did your application go?

I'm sorry! That is super frustrating. It might be worth reaching out to someone to ask if that was the reason, though. I would imagine that it had more to do with the fact that they've already made decisions at this point and have enough people on the waitlist? I was considering applying late to the last cycle and was basically told by admissions there was no point for the reasons above. There could still be a chance for the next round if you apply early!

I have been in touch with admissions and have been emailing every week. They never mentioned to me that it's already too late to apply or that I should just wait for the next application. Knowing that they told you that it's already late makes me upset. ?

OK....the same week isn't terrible.....maybe the specialty you applied to was completely filled. If Vandy is what you are interested...definitely apply early.

I am prespecialty and I was offered admission for AGPCNP. When do you hear from the other schools. I am still awaiting one more school decision which may be ready next week.

awww im sorry to hear that. If it was an immediate decision, there's a pretty good chance that they are not taking any new applications since it's kind of late to the cycle.

They should have told me that it's already late. I've been talking with admissions almost every week and she failed to mention this to me. Now, I feel like they just took my application fee.

I get that. If that's the issue about space available...then admissions should let you know. I would reach out and get an answer about why you were denied. Could be a very simple issue that can be fixed.

I agree to call and ask for a review of your application! So sorry, that is very frustrating to be in contact with them and feel that way. If you are still interested in Vandy, I highly recommend using the rest of this year for experience and to apply asap once the application opens up again in August or at least by the priority deadline. The open houses I have attended strongly suggest this.

Hello everybody. I also applied to Vanderbilt though I haven't heard from them yet. I just wanna know what your stats are? like GPA, experience, etc.. also who did you get as your recommenders?

I have a bachelors in biology and an MPH. My uGPA is 3.45 overall and gradGPA 3.95. Most of my experiences have been in public health research centered around maternal and infant mortality and some work in diabetes prevention/management. My recommenders were 3 of my MPH professors one of whom is a nurse. I applied and have been accepted to the nurse midwifery/FNP specialty route. I hope this is helpful!

Specializes in Transplant.

I didn't get accepted ?  I just submitted my application and got the decision right away. I don't think they even considered me or did a holistic review of my application. I have a feeling they automatically rejected me when they saw my very low GPA. This made me sad because I really put effort into those essays.

So sorry to hear this. What specialty/program did you apply to? It is frustrating they didn't tell you it was full (that's what it sounds like...) before you applied. Just think of it as great practice for applying in the fall!

For anyone still waiting (like one else have a better hypothesis?

I assume they wait for priority applicants to accept, then offer to those who applied later?

Hi FlyMurse,

Have you decided as yet? CRNA or NP?

Specializes in NICU/peds.

Has Anyone who applied for PNP heard anything yet?

Specializes in School.

There have been people accepted into programs after having submitted the application past the due date. I know a few mentioned that applicants who applied prior to the deadline were considered priority choice, however, this does not appear to be all that true. It is truly a mystery how the selection process works; RNs with tons of experience are not accepted, while some with little experience get the green light.

How many are still waiting? For those applying for the PMHNP program, does it appear to be full? I read at least 5-6 people here who had been accepted, and I thought the cohort was 7-9?

Also, I had called and was told:"we should hear very soon."
