Vanderbilt 2021 Direct Entry

Published

Hey guys!

Vandy's application opens tomorrow! I am so anxious to start the application. There is a Pre-Specialty thread already started so I want to start this one for direct entry. Post questions, comments, experiences, and anything else. Good luck everyone! You've got this!

I bet the wait is hard! I hope y’all hear soon.

Those admitted, I am really anxious about info that will open up on March 1st regarding all the programs. Been sitting here not knowing what to exactly expect this fall hah.

I thought we didn’t find out more info until the admitted student thing on 3/12??

On the admitted students page, there are different dates for different milestones. Right now, if you are admitted, you could claim all your vusn email if you accept the admission decision. March 1, more info comes out regarding the different paths. Not sure what that entails exactly, but more info is always appreciated! ?

Hi all,

Congrats to everyone who has been accepted. I was recently accepted into the NM/FNP program here. I also applied to Columbia's MDE/DNP program and am yet to hear back. It has been great seeing all the information on the pros and cons of all the programs others applied to as I wait to hear back from Columbia. Thanks for all the detailed feedback. And good luck to all waiting to hear back!

Hello everybody. I also applied to Vanderbilt though I haven't heard from them yet. I just wanna know what your stats are? like GPA, experience, etc.. also who did you get as your recommenders?

Specializes in Transplant.

I applied late so waiting to find out if I got in but happy to share...I've been a nurse for 18 years-background in critical care and organ transplant. I got my ADN in 2003 and my BSN in 2019. My GPA for my BSN was 4.0. Not sure if they look at that or my ADN which was a 3.6 I think...I also was in a MPH program and had taken 5 classes (including stats) but decided I wanted to go a clinical route and withdrew. I had a 4.0 in that program. I got a letter of rec from my direct boss who is the director of transplant (I currently work in organ transplant), a cardiologist who is the director of heart failure, VAD and the heart transplant program at our institute and a surgeon who is the surgical director of kidney transplant at our program. I applied to the AGACNP route.

My GPA from my different schools rounded out to be a 3.8 I believe. I had recommendations for my ER medical directors and immediate nursing supervisor, as well as one of the MSN ER nursing educators. 4 years RN experience, 2 years tech experience. CEN, TNCC, ENPC, my area specific extra stuff. Hope this helps ❤️

I feel out of the norm, but I had a 2.99 undergrad GPA, a 3.13 ADN GPA, and then a 3.93 GPA from my RN-BSN from a pretty reputable program. I didn’t just go to an online rnbsn program. It was hybrid and took a lot of work! I have worked as a CNA from 2012 to 2017 over various areas, did psych as my first job as an RN in 2017, and have been on a critical care unit since 2018. I have since taken on precepting roles, received nursing certification in my area and am active in my department’s clinical education. I spent a lot of time on my essays to make up for my poor GPAs before my BSN and strongly emphasized how I improved and what I did to overcome my setbacks. I had an advisor from my ADN program, my BSN program and my manager from my unit as recommenders. They all have MSNs in FNP, nursing education and/or nursing leadership. Vandy was the dream program and the long shot that I aimed for, but I did get into the AGPCNP program.

I didn't get accepted ?  I just submitted my application and got the decision right away. I don't think they even considered me or did a holistic review of my application. I have a feeling they automatically rejected me when they saw my very low GPA. This made me sad because I really put effort into those essays.

Hi Khaleesi. You received your decision the same day you submitted the app? I think from information sessions that I have attended they have said that 3.8 GPA is their average. But I have seen on this forum individuals having much lower GPAs. I am surprised you received an answer that quickly.

Any other schools you have applied to? Don't let it get you down at all. If you think GPA is the issue, I think taking some grad level courses will help.

I'm sorry! That is super frustrating. It might be worth reaching out to someone to ask if that was the reason, though. I would imagine that it had more to do with the fact that they've already made decisions at this point and have enough people on the waitlist? I was considering applying late to the last cycle and was basically told by admissions there was no point for the reasons above. There could still be a chance for the next round if you apply early!

awww im sorry to hear that. If it was an immediate decision, there's a pretty good chance that they are not taking any new applications since it's kind of late to the cycle.
