Vanderbilt 2021 Direct Entry

Published

Hey guys!

Vandy's application opens tomorrow! I am so anxious to start the application. There is a Pre-Specialty thread already started so I want to start this one for direct entry. Post questions, comments, experiences, and anything else. Good luck everyone! You've got this!

Which specialty are you doing at Vanderbilt? If you feel more passion for your selected specialty then it would be hard to give up the your Fall spot for the unknown. It's a tough decision. I thought about the CRNA at one point but didn't feel like I was passionate about that route. You do have some time to think before accepting your Vanderbilt offer.

AGACNP- with an intensivist specialty. I figured if I couldn't do CRNA, then throwing in A-lines, central lines, and intubating as an ICU NP would still make me happy.

I feel so grateful to have been accepted and I hate taking a spot that someone else could have. But the thought of ANOTHER year at the bedside if I don't get into CRNA school just kills my soul LOL.

That's the speciaIty applied to! I applied late and am waiting to see if I got in....I want to do the transplant option as I've worked in organ transplant for the last 15 years. I'm dying waiting to see if I get in....

Just what you said right there "the thought of ANOTHER year at the bedside if I don't get into CRNA school just kills my soul". I say take the chance and go for the CRNA program. Do it. I feel you will get through this time.

I called on Tuesday and asked and was told it could be until mid-March but that my round was being reviewed already....I don't think they'll really wait that long but who knows...

Hi everyone! I got into the ENP program. Shocked, scared, overwhelmed, but excited ? is there a facebook group for our NP cohort as a whole? I only applied to Vanderbilt, totally figured it wouldn’t happen, but here we are!

For anyone still waiting (like myself),

What do you think the selection process consists of? For example, we have seen some denied, accepted and waitlisted, yet, we continue waiting for faculty to review our application.

There must be a hard yes, hard no, hard maybe (waitlisted), and then another category which may be the people they feel they want to give an undeserved opportunity to? I have no idea how they are measuring this.

Anyone else have a better hypothesis? ?

Ha! I love your hypothesis. When did you apply? What specialty? I applied in early Jan for AGACNP. No news yet...I have no idea what to think...I'm hoping it means they didn't give me a no right off the bat and are waiting to see how many commit before extending me one (but then why not waitlist me?). No clue...

It could be a combination of many things.  I think the mere fact you have no decision right now shows you are being considered. I think since you applied in January, they are also looking at the entire landscape ( brand new applications, waitlisted applicants from 1st group, awaiting the number of admitted students who will decline their spots). Overall it's great news that you are still in the running.
