Vanderbilt 2021 Direct Entry

Published

Hey guys!

Vandy's application opens tomorrow! I am so anxious to start the application. There is a Pre-Specialty thread already started so I want to start this one for direct entry. Post questions, comments, experiences, and anything else. Good luck everyone! You've got this!

There have been people accepted into programs after having submitted the application past the due date. I know a few mentioned that applicants who applied prior to the deadline were considered priority choice, however, this does not appear to be all that true. It is truly a mystery how the selection process works; RNs with tons of experience are not accepted, while some with little experience get the green light.

How many are still waiting? For those applying for the PMHNP program, does it appear to be full? I read at least 5-6 people here who had been accepted, and I thought the cohort was 7-9?

Also, I had called and was told:"we should hear very soon."

I know in the past The PMHNP has had around 30-40 students, I’m still waiting to hear but I applied after the deadline, fingers crosssed ??

Does anyone know the average on how many applied for the prespecialty Psych based on previous years?  And how Covid has affected the applicants?

The website stated approximately 50 are accepted into the PMHNP track. Not sure how it's broken up between non-nursing, ASN entry and BSN entry though.

I've officially accepted my spot for the part-time direct entry AGPC-NP track and paid my deposit. The other two schools I applied to have either rejected me or have taken too long to respond and time's a-tickin'! I spoke with the track's program director today and she put me at ease about the sequence of the courses + what travel to expect. Students who started the direct entry programs last August haven't even been to campus yet because of covid and future visits have been slashed in half already in hopes of having students come visit again when things settle down. A lot of increased student satisfaction has been found by having everything virtually. It sounds like Vanderbilt truly adapted well.

To anyone still waiting (like me!)....I called today and was told anytime in the next 1-2 weeks...my app is under evaluation and I was told there is still room in the track I applied to. Fingers crossed....who else is still waiting to hear?

It's such a hard decision to make. I think most of us come to these forums to find solidarity and to see what others in similar situations have to say as though it will somehow make the decision easier. Sometimes it does, but mostly I think we just come to realize that that there is no "right", clear-cut choice. It's a very personal choice. I'd be curious to see what school you choose!

@ForeverPsych I decided that Vandy is for me. Nashville here I come. I pretty much had to evaluate between Vanderbilt and the University of Miami. Pretty happy with my choice. I have lost $1300 in deposits and fees to UM (also took a Chemistry w/lab course that's driving me crazy....that I will not need that cost about $1500) but that's the cost I incurred for ensuring that I had a number of options (Emory & UM required it).

Duke is a great school but I am going to decline that offer (husband doesn't want to go to North Carolina & it's a BSN 16 month program vs Vandys 2 year NP Program.

How's things with you?

I hope you hear something soon though as others decline and opens up room for your specialty!

Do you think that if someone declines their admission, this allows someone who was waitlisted to move forward or is the person still waiting for an answer given priority over those who were waitlisted?  I know there are a lot of people waiting, so I wonder if the setup is priority to those waitlisted, then to those who haven’t heard back yet. Is someone still waiting to hear is in a favorable position?  Or is this going to be some type of mass execution filled with denials this or next week to those who haven’t heard back!?
