VA Hiring Process

Published

From the previous posts I've read the VA hiring process is pretty long and drawn out. I've applied to two different VA sites. The VA an hour away from my home I can always get in contact with a nurse recruiter and my application status for two posting says "referred to selecting official." The VA closest to my home, I can't get through to the recruiter, she emailed me back once and the status of all the apps just says "application received." I do know a nurse practitioner that works at this VA site and she tried to give my resume to the recruiter, but I had to apply online.

For those of you that are familiar with the hiring process, any idea what the next step is. In all there are around 20 RN vacancies. The two systems have two completely different online application submissions, how will I know if I've completed the application process correctly, its a little confusing :(

I've been applying since I've graduated and earlier this year I found out that I was applying the wrong way so those positions don't count. These positions closed in September.

Thanks in advance ?

Thank you for your response. I'm just concern they might low ball me because all my experience has been in pediatrics í ½í¸“

It has been three weeks since I got my physical and fingerprints done and almost 2 weeks since vetpro. All my references faxed and mailed the letters of recommendation last week and I only had one job during my 6 years as a nurse. How much longer do you guys think this can take?

Chechys,

I hope you won't have case like mine. I had every thing done and was waiting for final offer. Unfortunately I got email saying " I regret to inform you that our agency has decided to cancel or postpone filling this vacancy and we must withdraw our tentative offer of employment". I was so upset by this news. At my current job, my manager has changed her attitude towards me since she knew I applied for new job. However, keep your finger cross and be patience.

What position did you apply for? And in what state? I'm in Arizona so hopefully that won't be the case for me.

I just got an email with a code for the e-quip. It says I need to wait for more instructions from the hiring office before setting up the account. Does anyone know how long does it take for e-quip to clear? I got my tentative offer back at the biggining of January. Everything is done except for this new e-quip I just received. I am tire of waiting and can't afford to let other good job opportunities go by while I continue to wait for the VA.

I applied for RN, clinical lead, in Virginia. Good luck for you.

Can I apply in VA even my citizenship is on going? Meaning I'm in the middle of process just waiting for my interview for my citizenship,

You can apply, but most VA jobs I have seen state preference for US citizens, and they will fill jobs with non-citizens only if they can't find a US citizen for the position. You also have to have a degree from a school accredited by a US accrediting body — don't know if that applies to you or not, but I thought I would mention it.

I applied with my local VA, and got a "thanks but no thanks" e-mail saying that someone else had been selected. Wasn't even interviewed. I have over 20 years of experience.

Hey. So I've been reading this thread and thought I'd add my two cents. I'm an internal employee transferring to another VA. My process has been no different than any other person's on here. I applied online. Was called by a nurse executive to set up my interview. Interviewed by the panel on March 24th. Interviewed by the nurse executive March 25th. Heard back from nurse recruiter on March 26th through email with a list of things to send in for the board to review which included 9 dimensions of nursing, transcripts, rec letters, certs, and licenses. Those had to be in by April 7th but I had it back in by April 5th. I sent an update email to the nurse recruiter on April 14th and got a response back today saying my file was sent to HR and had I heard anything from them about updating my vetpro, fingerprints, etc. I know the process takes a while because I've been working at a va for a long while. Exciting process. Can't wait to move to my new city. Good luck to you guys!! Enjoy the VA and try to stay positive in your environment. I love working for the system.

I read the first few pages and it was very eye opening! It sounds like a very long, complicated process. I've only just applied, so we'll see if it goes any further than that.

From what I've read on here, it looks like education/experience doesn't count unless you can quantify it with the 9 dimensions of nursing. Is this correct?
