UW Transfer BSN 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello! I'm posting here to get any feedback from previous UWSoN students or current prenursing students who are applying for the 2019 cohort. A little bit about me is that I'm currently a student at OC in Washington, my prereq GPA for UW's required classes is about a 3.81 and my cumulative GPA is a 3.7. I have been working as a CNA/Medication assistant for almost half a year and will be continuing working until I move to Seattle for school. Any advice is greatly appreciated on housing, how to study for the proctored essay, and any way to better my chances! Thank you!

@berserk_angel that really helped me feel better so thank you! You're right, I will probably end up meeting with Adrian. At this point I might even consider actually going into public health. I just feel so defeated and I haven't even heard back yet! Nursing is just super competitive and cut throat honestly.

@Anjee.b don't get discouraged!! I was just accepted into SU after being rejected from UW's ABSN program. I also didn't get into the Seattle Colleges twice because I had my transcript evaluated at South Seattle College but found out it was supposed to be evaluated at Seattle Central College to qualify. I was pretty upset about that because I was told I could get it evaluated at South but then was rejected because my application wasn't "complete."

Before I got into SU, I was planning on meeting with Adrian to discuss how to make my application stronger for the next cycle. I also attended an info session at UW after I received my rejection, and Adrian was really thorough about what exactly they are looking for in their application prompts. I was planning on making the changes for my BSN application but then I decided to apply to SU instead because they didn't require a recommendation letter.

If you have your heart set on UW and you don't get in, I would definitely meet with Adrian and work on improving your application, work experience, volunteer experience, etc. There's also all of the private schools, SPU, SU, PLU, that offer amazing scholarships for undergraduate students that help bring down the larger price tag. You could also consider the ADN programs since those colleges tend to start fall, winter, and spring so you wouldn't have to wait an entire year to apply again. I hope this helped, I was definitely in your same shoes and wondering if I would ever get in and I finally did!

Cheese Louise! I can't believe you had to deal with all that. Kudos for getting into Seattle U in the face of major hurdles !! Nursing here in Washington is definitely not easy, but what I tell myself is that if this is the career path you want, you've got to go get it. Two or three years after graduating, you'll barely remember all the hoops you had to jump through to get into nursing school anyway....you'll be too busy being an awesome nurse!!

This might sound weird, but one thing that's especially nagging me about possible rejection is my letter of recommendation. It's an *airtight* letter- my recommender was extremely specific and well-worded in her commentary and examples, and I don't see how I could possibly get a better one if I re applied. I definitely couldn't ask her again (too embarassing!)

Oh well, at least I know if I get rejected it won't be from that letter! :scrying:

TEN DAYS LEFT!

10 days? Are you sure? I really want it to be only 10 days but I was told more like 13.

No, I'm just going by last year where decisions were emailed out the 16th. And arguably they needed more time last year to make decisions than this year, since they were accepting even fewer applicants . Could be wrong though

☹️ I’m kinda freaking out, and really need notifications to go out today. Lol.

LOL my birthday is on the 20th of this month sooo hearing the news will either make it the best orrrr the worst. All we can do is pray at this point haha.

Anjee, same here! My birthday is the 21st, so I will either have a sad sad birthday or bring my family honor.... I'm hoping it's the latter lol

I'm like the one person posting too much on this thread but idc....You guys must know! I called the UW SON to confirm when emails are sent out and the girl who picked up said "We are expecting admissions decisions to be emailed out by April 15th."

I also asked if there were really 80 spots available and she said "yes, we are making 80 offers."

So close!!! It’s getting too real

@berserk_angel dude you’re the bomb. Thanks for checking. I was gonna lose my mind waiting for the 19th. ?
