UW Transfer BSN 2019

Published

Hello! I'm posting here to get any feedback from previous UWSoN students or current prenursing students who are applying for the 2019 cohort. A little bit about me is that I'm currently a student at OC in Washington, my prereq GPA for UW's required classes is about a 3.81 and my cumulative GPA is a 3.7. I have been working as a CNA/Medication assistant for almost half a year and will be continuing working until I move to Seattle for school. Any advice is greatly appreciated on housing, how to study for the proctored essay, and any way to better my chances! Thank you!

@berserk_angel I go to BC as well. Who are you taking for micro? I’m finishing it up this quarter.

I'm going to be taking Annalisa Lembo for Microbiology and Maggie for lifespan psych online. I've heard really good things about Annalisa (which is great because her class is the only evening class/after work class, so she's my only option anyway.) Who are you taking micro with currently?

@berserk_angel that’s awesome, I’ve heard good things about Annalisa too. I’m currently taking it with Jim. This class was way more difficult for me than A&P but hopefully everything goes smoothly for you!

I have a friend who took Jim, he has a reputation for being seriously hardcore (like in a good way). You must really know your stuff!
I just gave notice to the hospital I'm at that I'll be leaving my volunteer shift at PACU. Hopefully I don't regret it....Whenever I get too worried about the app, I try to imagine wearing purple scrubs lol. Or sitting at orientation with you guys in the fall, meeting everyone in person. Positive thoughts!

By the way, any recommendations for where to renew BLS certification? I need to do that, mine just expired..

If your certification expired I’m pretty sure you can’t just renew it. You’ll probably have to take the entire course again. You can search on the American Red Cross website to find classes closest to you.

Yes that is what I meant, retaking the class...I have checked the merican red Cross website but I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for specific places. Otherwise I'll probably just do it at my college like the 1st time ?

I would do the BLS through the American heart association tbh. I liked their program better. Jim’s nice but his class is insanely difficult. I’m sure you’ll have better luck w Annalisa haha

Really? Okay then thanks for the tip!! I really want my CPR skills to be sharp!

I totally get you! I did mine through my employer, and they had a cool online stimulation, and then a kind of “skills test” in person. I’m not sure if that’s how every program through them is done but that’s how mine was and I liked it way better than the Red Cross training I did to get into CNA school.

Beserk is right, I applied to UW, SU, and SPU. Just got my acceptance for SPU, so at least that one's out of my worries! The cost is absolutely insane for private schools though, so there's definitely a lot to think about.

So not envious of you guys still working on pre-reqs. It's been a great break having everything finished. You guys just have to finish strong! ?

Also- I've heard so many people have to apply more than once, most of the people I know who graduated form UW or are currently in the program were second or third time applicants. So if you don't get in this time, don't be terribly discouraged!

Also- I did my CPR through CPR Seattle initially, and it was super super easy. But lots of medical facilities will have ways for you to get it through them if you work at one!

Congrats on the SPU news! I only applied to SU and UW. Obviously we haven’t heard back from UW but I was curious if you had heard anything from SU or knew when we might hear something, the wait is killing me lol!

Haven't heard anything yet! I saw what someone posted on the SU thread about some people getting an email about their application, but I haven't received anything. My application date changed a bunch of times this past week, most recently being 3/13. Hoping we'll hear something this upcoming week!
