UW Transfer BSN 2019

Published

Hello! I'm posting here to get any feedback from previous UWSoN students or current prenursing students who are applying for the 2019 cohort. A little bit about me is that I'm currently a student at OC in Washington, my prereq GPA for UW's required classes is about a 3.81 and my cumulative GPA is a 3.7. I have been working as a CNA/Medication assistant for almost half a year and will be continuing working until I move to Seattle for school. Any advice is greatly appreciated on housing, how to study for the proctored essay, and any way to better my chances! Thank you!

Thanks for all the feedback guys. @prodeuce, @bananochka. It makes much more sense to me now, but now I’m freaking out that I missed one. ?

@Lorena93 the first one I believe was infusion at 6ml/hr and there are 50 mg in 250 ml, so how many mg/hr is the patient getting? I divided 50 mg by 250ml to find out how many mg per ml, then I multiplied it by the 6ml to find out the mg/hr. I hope that helped.

I’m so disappointed that I forgot to place my decimal for 1.2! Right when she said pens down I couldn’t save myself. :( it all shows in my work but my answer which really is upsetting. For the last question I subtracted in my head 20-4 and I rushed back to the essay when there was 5mins left and I quickly wrote 4! Omg. I was so nervous I was shaking lol

@Chubby_bunny ughhhh!!!! I’m so upset. Thank you that did help.

Real talk though guys, my proctored essay was probably the worst/weakest part of my application! Still trying to remain optimistic, but ?

Well, orange, keep in mind that the essay is just one part of the application. 9 months as a CNA is nothing to sneeze at! Fret not, I say.

Hi everyone,

I have been following this page for a while, but I am finally posting now. I went to the proctored essay yesterday and let me say I don't think you could prepare enough!! Im pretty sure the math portion did not go too hot for myself and I wondering how much they take that into consideration ?

I know some people are quite nervous about missing one problem on the math but don't be! Adrian has said on multiple occasions that missing one question will not hurt your chances. Missing all three is a strong reason for denial. I've actually met and know a couple of people in the past years who missed one math problem and still got accepted.

In the end, you all did your best so try not to beat yourself up about it. If anything, try to learn from your experience and reflect upon what went well and what didn't. Keep thinking positive thoughts and keep your head up!

Hey everyone- finally got a chance to get on my computer to type an actual response. ?

I also got 1.2 (mg, was it?), 200 ml, and 16 units. The first and third questions were easy for me, but the second one gave me SO MUCH trouble. I was totally psyching myself out and ended up leaving it until after I wrote my essay. I had to remind myself that the questions were meant to be simple, and that yes, it could be that easy. So glad to see you guys got the same answer though!

I personally chose to wrote about the geriatric patient with breast cancer who was abusing staff. I chose that patient because I have plenty of experience in caring for kids and dealing with sometimes frustrated parents, but the extent of my geriatric experience was only my 5 days of CNA clinical. I touched on my weakness with feeling less confident due to my lack of experience and difficulty with confrontation. I focused on using therapeutic communication, trying to find ways to make the patient more comfortable and oriented, and treating the patient as a whole, not just their primary diagnosis.

Now it's time to just sit around and stress until April! Hopefully we all get in, I'd love to start nursing school with such a supportive cohort. Fingers crossed, guys! ?

I agree with prodeuce-From what I've seen on previous threads, 1 or even 2 math problems is really not a big deal, and people who feel not so confident about their math still get in!

Blue, the second problem killllled me. I had such an ominous feeling about putting down 200 but nothing else made sense. I also had to go back to it and do some head scratching on that one. Was super relieved to see I wasn't the only one...

If we could all get in that would be such a blessing! 2 months will fly by you guys.

Harry: "Now we wait?"

Hermione: "And now we wait." XD

Oh and by the way, what you wrote sounds so good. From the sound of it we all wrote pretty stellar essays...its just hard to know exactly what they're looking for, you know? The magic ingredient..the essay that makes the reviewer readjust their glasses and gasp "IMPRESSIVE!! we MUST accept this candidate!!" LOL

WOW I had to work three 12 hour shifts after the essay so now I'm finally able to check in on this forum again. Those shifts helped me keep my mind off the stress of the waiting game but now that I've got some free time this weekend the anxiety is back!

I hope you all are well and taking time to take care of yourselves. Do what YOU need for your mind, body and soul! I'm thinking about a bubble bath and a nice glass of wine to celebrate my long week. I hope some of you pamper yourselves as well. You all deserve it!
