Hello! I'm posting here to get any feedback from previous UWSoN students or current prenursing students who are applying for the 2019 cohort. A little bit about me is that I'm currently a student at OC in Washington, my prereq GPA for UW's required classes is about a 3.81 and my cumulative GPA is a 3.7. I have been working as a CNA/Medication assistant for almost half a year and will be continuing working until I move to Seattle for school. Any advice is greatly appreciated on housing, how to study for the proctored essay, and any way to better my chances! Thank you!

Yeah it’s 20% less and so it’s 20% less from the starting unit of 20 so it’s 20-4=16. I hope I showed enough work, I feel like I did but I’m good at second guessing myself sometimes ?
Hello everyone,
I’ve been following this thread pretty closely but didn’t decide to throw my two cents in until now. I went to the proctored essay tonight and I felt pretty good about the essay........that math tho. I got 1.2, 100, and 16. So I’m confident number 1 and 3 are correct but number 2 confused me. The order was for the medication to be infused over thirty minutes, so the ml/ hr would be the same as what was ordered right? You wouldn’t infuse longer than what the doctor ordered. Any thoughts on this?
Hi @Chubby_bunny
This is how i solved number 2. Order is 250 mg in 100 ml over 30 min. question is what the rate is in ml/hr. 250 mg is extraneous info, so we're only looking at the amount over the time (ml/hr). However, we need to convert the 30 min into hours. so this is how i did it:
(100 ml/30 min)*(60 min/1hr). you get rid of your min unit, and you now have ml/hr. you end up with 6000ml/30hr, and after reducing you get 200ml/1hr. if you think about it, in 30 min you would get the dosage of 100 ml. If you set the rate to 100ml/1hr, you'd only get 50 ml in 30 min instead of 100.
I got the same for the math, 1.2, 200, and 16. My work was a disaster because I initially did questions 1 and 2 wrong and crossed so much out ?
For the essay I picked the second situation with the victim of domestic violence/headaches. I mentioned my time as a youth volunteer in a shelter for domestic violence and wanting to apply that experience in a healthcare setting. I said it would be challenging to not be able to “fix” the problem and to not let my sad feelings on the situation seep into my personal life. I think I said I would hope to learn more about the patients perspective and to learn coping mechanisms for myself.
I don’t think I wrote the worst essay, but I don’t feel super confident about it. ? Writing under pressure has never been my strong suit but hopefully my entire application is solid enough.
Alright you guys. I studied my booty off for the math portion. I decided to go on dosagehelp and it screwed me up. I got all the correct answers on the official paper, crossed it out, did it another way and am now realizing I HAD IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. omg. I really hope they just consider my correct answers
My essay was just a hot mess all around haha!
It seems as if I approached the essay a bit differently from other folks. For me, I actually emphasized the challenges of the patient scenario (which kind of tied in to what I gain as well????) Where I acknowledged that there was more than meets eye surrounding the patient and that it was difficult to provide care without first understanding their entire situation. ¯\ _(ツ)_/¯
I got the same answers of 1.2, 200, and 16 so I have that going for me! They were trickier than I expected, when I opened the booklet I was soooo shocked
ProDeuce, thank you, that's what I did as well!! I doubled it in my head but realized on paper it would have to be (100 x 60)/ 30. Simplify it, you get 100 x 2, bingo 200. Becca that sucks!!! I hope too that they see your original answers. Come on, you got it right the first time!
edit: I'm sure your essay wasn't a hot mess! LOLLLL. I think it's impressive that we all managed to even have a clear train of thought in our responses. I actually wasn't even nervous about the essay much till I got to the buildin (40 min early) and then the atmosphere of tension!SHEESH! Then once we were sitting down and raring to do the SON people are like : OK DON'T BE NERVOUS. IT'S VERY IMPORTANT TO STAY CALM. OK ANY QUESTIONS? ANY QUESTIONS OUT THERE? HAVE I ASKED YET IF ANYONE HAS ANY QUESTIONS??
The guy sitting next to me was so jittery too. He scattered his test papers everywhere more than once and had to go diving to get them. I was just intoning "stay calm...stay calm.."LOL
Hi You guys! Hadn’t posted on this until tonight. I was at the proctored essay and even tho they said not to think about it once we were done I can’t help it!
I had practiced my math for like the past month and honestly I went in the building today super confident with math problems and scared for the essay!! But I as soon as I saw the math complex questions they had I freaked out!! They were not easy ones! So much I had to move on to my essay and come back. Pretty sad ?
Can someone tell me how they solved number 1?! I’m still trying to solve it and just can’t seem to get it!!! At this point I’m probably over thinking and should drop it but I can’t. *ughhhhhhhh*
