UTMB UTHealh fall 2017

U.S.A. Texas

I'm not sure if I'm posting in the correct forum and I know I'm a wee bit early, but is there anyone out there near Houston getting ready to apply for fall 2017 in a couple of months ?? Where are you academically ? I have micro and Chem left for this fall and I'm applying right before deadlines ! I keep saying it's far away, but it keeps coming closer and closer !

Y'all are slacking...I got mine turned in Friday night:)

lol it has been ages since I've written a personal statement and writing essays is NOT my strongest suit  but i got it done finally.

I definitely understand...I had my 14 year old daughter proof read mine and suggest changes.

@RB_Dez That's my situation but I still applied. I mean I finished my last final 12/17 then order transcripts 12/22 when grades were posted. Lone star has an upload doc option but UH does not. Had to fax request along with attachment and it took them until 01/04 to mail it due to holidays. It arrived 01/11. So it was literally impossible for my transcripts to arrive in time. I hope I did not pay $45 in vain

ya i feel you :/

I'm was only going to apply to my school's nursing program (Texas State) but I found out that UTMB also had similar prereqs enough for me to apply. Anyways, still sent my application even though my transcripts were not verified yet, and that's cause they arrived last Monday. UTMB NursingCAS is probably the worst, complicated application for nursing schools, the Texas State's nursing application was 100x simpler/easier.

Has anyone else received their supplemental application yet for UTMB?

Hey everyone,

My name is Hunter and I'm brand new to AllNurses. I made an account specifically to communicate with other applicants and perhaps current students if any are also on this. I would love to know a bit more about other applicants, and any information possible from current students or anyone who has extra information. I'd be happy to share anything I know as well!

A bit about me: I'm currently a sophomore at the University of Houston Honors College. Of course, I have taken the TEAS and sent in my NursingCAS application, academic transcript, and TEAS transcript. I am currently taking A&P2 and Lab, Elementary Microbiology and Lab (Pre-Nursing Microbiology is only offered in the Fall at UH and I need to have it done this semester if I'm accepted), Human Development and Interaction, and Nutrition. As you all can see, I waited quite a while to complete my sciences. All I have completed on my application is Chemistry and Lab, and A&P 1 and Lab. I have largely free-lanced my whole application process, as UH doesn't offer a real nursing program, so I haven't had any professional advisors aside from those at UTMB's Open House and within UTMB. Because of this, I do have a couple of questions I hope someone is able to answer:

1. How long will it be before the supplemental application is sent? I have gotten mixed answers and am not sure which is most likely/accurate.

2. How long should it take to be given final word (acceptance/rejection)?

I appreciate ANY information at all, be it regarding my specific questions or not. Even if it's something I already know, thank you for the help, advice, and tips in advance. :) Best of luck to us all, and I hope to talk to y'all soon!

Hunter M.

I received the supplemental application which was mostly demographic questions and Inpaid the addition fee that goes with it. I received mine about two weeks ago. I had turned in my complete initial application about a week prior to receiving the supplemental application.

@Jules81, how did you receive it? Just by email, correct? I have everything turned in, but next to "Transcripts" in NursingCAS, it still says "Verifying" for me. An advisor at UTMB assured me that this was alright. Do you think that is why I haven't received the supplemental application yet, or do you know something else that could be withholding it?

I received it via email. They give a week to complete it. You are fine because many people waited to send in transcripts until Fall classes had been added to their transcript. If admissions says this was okay I'm sure it is and most likely this is why you haven't received it. Don't panic!

Awesome. It's good to hear that from someone else as well! Thank you very much @Jules81.

Also, what has everyone heard in terms of GPA and TEAS requirements? The website's "competitive" limits surely don't guarantee admission, and nothing else can either, but I have a feeling it's going to take much more to get in than just what the website states is good to have. I have been searching around for GPA and TEAS score distributions from previous years but have found nothing. Does anyone have a good clue? I also haven't seen very much info posted on here about current applicants, so I'm not sure how we're all fairing. Best of luck to all of us!

I couldn't find the Admission Profiles for UTMB, but the Texas State Nursing program (ranked a little higher than UTMB) has an average of 3.5 GPA / 3.52 Science GPA and a 92 score on the TEAS for the 2016 class (however, they took the TEAS 5, not the ATI Teas )

That should give you a little look about how competitive it is for the top nursing schools.

If you go back and search other threads similar to this one about admissions you will find several posts with applicants listing their stats along with if they were accepted or not. From what I gathered you need an 85 or better on the TEAS and a 3.5 or better to be competitive.

I'll be honest. The more scores I'm seeing from people the more I am panicking. I have always, always done well academically. I graduated with highest honors both times from grad school and with honors in my undergrad. My TEAS score was much lower than I wanted at 77.3. My GPAs are not as high as many of you who are posting. I've never not been accepted to school when I've applied and I'm terrified this will be the first and I'm not going to get in, especially since I have to recend my work contract before I know for sure I've already gotten in.
