  1. I was going to apply to UTHealth and utmb but since they both want different tests I made the hard decision of just studying for the HESI. They're both different tests with different study methods and different subjects. Also the teas is a lot harder than the HESI apparently. So I'm doing the HESI in November and in January I will study for the teas.
  2. Managers I believe normally come in between 8:30am and 9am. I completely understand and know with nursing comes unpredictable things and you do not always come out on time, but if it is the same people every single shift half an hour to forty five minutes late, then it bothers me. Our manager is known for being relaxed , but maybe he is too relaxed.
  3. Let me begin by saying it's my first time working in a hospital. It is actually a dream come true of mine to be a tech and get my foot in the door. I figured since I was going in I would be dealing with many professional people who share the same passion as I do. Lately I've been feeling down because when I go in (and I'm always on time) I never know if I will be relieved on time. I am night shift and morning techs should be present and clocked in at 6:45am. I will stand and wait there until 7:15am-7:20am and still not be relieved. I've eventually just starting walking out after writing report and letting nurses know I'm leaving because I can not stay 30 minutes after my shift due to school. Also when I'm pulled as a sitter for a patient, trying to find out whose coming to relieve me so I can get out of the room, is complete hell. Some night techs have stayed until 8am waiting !!! I always have anxiety when no one shows up and I end up having to call charge nurse to find someone so I can get out. If I don't speak up I will be left in the room until 8am or even longer. I don't mean to sound rude, but if I come early every day and on time I expect the same respect. So now I dread and worry about going in and being placed as a sitter and having to have the hassle of never being relieved and missing my bus and school. I thought a specialized hospital would be professional :-( any advice ?
  4. For stats I took it at HCC online ... I got an A, but it was hard ! I absolutely hated it ! I'm also taking micro for this fall ! The class begins tomorrow at 8am.
  5. Hi! My last science pre reqs are micro and Chem and I'm taking them fall session which begins tomorrow at HCC :-) then I'm taking my teas and HESI around that time. Isnt biology a pre req for micro ?
  6. Hi ! No I haven't started studying for it yet. I am taking a&p 1 and 2 this summer so I want to get those complete before I take the test. I heard the teas study guide on their website is really good. Also I use the online practice teas tests here and there !
  7. Question.... a lot of different schools talk about an overall gpa and I see a lot of people stating their pre req gpa only. When the average acceptance is a 3.5 gpa for UT Health (as stated above), is this our pre req gpa with classes just being used for applications or our overall gpa of our entire education. Figured I'd ask. I was stuck during the floods when they had their seminar and they sent me their seminar powerpoint , but I don't see it. Figured I would ask you guys before calling and annoying them....again lol
  8. Ugh I have had so many problems with this school. I've been in the whole process of transferring my classes over to their school and trying to get financial aid at HCC. I spoke to atleast one hundred people about it and I was sent to people who couldn't help me, I think I cried. I also would call the school and no one would ever answer or return my calls. I waited one time for 30 minutes when it said there were 0 callers ahead of me. I ended up getting so frustrated and left my home to go in person because not even the operator was answering the phones. Oh and when I transferred earlier this year my nursing counselor did not tell me anything about their program being in trouble and how this year it would be shut down. I visited her and she told me my classes were good to apply to their program and I was set to go then a few days later the program was in the news for it's bad nclex results. She didn't tell me anything about it and the possibility that the program might not be around anymore. I was in shock !
  9. I don't know about taking the Teas test before finishing anatomy and chemistry. I am taking them all before I take my Teas. Also it's a workload, but you can do it if you really put your mind to it. I will be taking anatomy and physiology back to back this summer 8am-12:45pm and I will also be working full time 12 hour shifts at the hospital 7pm-7am lol so after my 12 hour shifts i'm going straight to school for a few hours. Work load, but we can do it. It's really up to if you really want it and what kind of person you are. I think you can do it , but take it seriously !
  10. I am applying right after you in december for fall 2017 :] I haven't taken the HESI yet and I am already studying to compensate my overall gpa. My science gpa is 4.0, but since my overall is low compared to the average that applies, I'm hoping to get great HESI results to help myself become more competitive. Everything combined is looked at from what I read !
  11. It varies by hospital and by state. I recently was hired as a PCA/PCT in Texas with my CNA experience. My job title though is PCA and not CNA which means I will be able to do other thing such as taking blood sugars. Later on you can be trained to do more as a PCA like remove IV's or catheters and doing basic wound care. So yes, your scope is different if you were a CNA in a long term setting.
  12. After reading so many posts , it seems UTMB takes in many different scores and also brings into consideration the interview!
  13. Hey :)! How was your micro class ? I just signed up for fall session. I'm a bit nervous. Where are you doing your pre reqs ?:)
  14. Wow tell me later how your chem class goes this summer! I'm taking it this fall and I'm already thinking about how hard it will be for me. It's not my best subject. I'm not sure , but I think there will be a good amount? When I registered it just gave my driving directions. Did it tell you which room ?
  15. How funny those are my three schools too! I signed up for all the info sessions a few weeks ago too ! TWU is tomorrow 2-4 , Utmb is May 13 and UTHSC is April 16 at 6 I believe. Exciting ! Have you taken your teas or hesi yet ?
