I'm wondering who applied for the UTMB Summer 2009 semester, and if they have received any news from UTMB. My status says "pending", and all my information was received. I don't know how big the applicant pool is considering the hurricane. I haven't seen any news on here about UTMB recently, so anything is appreciated. Thanks.
DMDTX (ha I know you) I agree with you... my advice is to be excited about being a nurse and being a student at UTMB (or whatever school you apply to and get interviewed at) Do a little research about the school and bring that with you to the interview... be sure you know how to answer that classic question "why do you want to be a nurse" and please dont say because you want to help people (everyone says that) Be honest, be yourself, be enthusiastic about being a nurse, and attempt to relax... if I got into nursing school, you can get into nursing school.... at the end of my first year of college I had a 2.7 and a 40% completion rate... after that I worked really hard making mostly As and a couple of Bs and got into UTMB and two other schools in the med center... good luck!
I'm getting my husband to quiz me on my interview questions and answers. Haha, hopefully I get an interview. That didn't happen at UT-Houston, but I think UTMB is better anyway. I had a really tough first semester of college, so my first transcript looks like something from a nightmare...
Thank you Jezziemis for the encouragement.
If anyone hears something from UTMB please post it. I'm constantly checking my e-mail now, so if I hear something I will let you know.
Ok, I got a notice from my apartment complex because my lease is almost up. I need to be out by April 1st. I currently live in North Houston so if I get into UTMB we have to move. I called UTMB to tell them this, and the lady was really nice! She said if we are invited to an interview we would get an e-mail at the end of THIS week, or the beginning of next week. She even checked to see if she could tell me anything, but my file is still in committee. Hopefully I will know something for sure before April 1st. She said that we would probably know before then. Good luck!! I am anxious to know whether or not I will get an interview.
Wow I keep checking my email but am getting much anxiety because nothing yet. I live in West Houston and am in the process of selling my house but I'm hoping that I won't sell it until I know something with UTMB because that will depend on where I live. Is anyone planning on commuting from Houston if they get in?
Hi guys, I have also applied for summer of '09. I had e-mailed Ms. Carmical the other day and found out that the interview date is on March 13th. I am also waiting for the e-mail for the interview. I contacted ms Mahoney today, and did not get a call back, as I left a voice-mail regarding the e-mail for interview. I also spoke to a friend who is currently in the program, and she says it is tough and mainly reading. I have a straight 4.0 GPA in sciences and all pre-reqs. The wait is killing me, hope we soon get the e-mails. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

the only health care experience i had that got me into utmb's nursing program was approximately one year of volunteer experience at a local hospital.
during the interview, emphasize the highlights of your volunteer experiences such as memorable patient interaction experiences, getting to work with different health care team members, etc. basically you have to let them know why nursing is the right career choice for you.
hope this info helps a little. good luck!
